Walking rear axle shafts?
I've heard that with the type of rear axle that the RX-7 has, that the shaft can slip out of the housing on very hard turning. Is that true? I've also heard a floating axle retrofit kit will correct this.

it is possible but only if your bearings and retainer clips are old and loose.... Signs of this will be leaking axle seals that continue to leak after being replaced.
when pressing on the bearing and retainer clip it will take about 5 tons of pressure, if it takes less than 2.5 then you will need to replace it.
I dont think that you have to worry.... I tend to take corners very hard and i have a lot of trust in rear end.
Cheers,
Mick

I blew the bearing on one of my axles last week and the brake caliper held it in ok until I could get somewhere safe (home). I could see how this could happen if the bearing were not installed correctly but it would have to be a major failure to happen.
