VDI actuation in a 1st gen

I'm in the process of putting an S5 13B into my SE along with the VDI intake manifold. And obviously, I don't have the proper ECU or wiring to activate the VDI solenoid.

I've done some reading in the FSM and found that the VDI opens in the same way the aux port actuators do in that they rotate upon application of positive pressure.

Do you guys think the VDI will work properly if I tee off the pressure line that goes from the exhaust to the aux port actuators?

maybe but not at the right rpm. do some searching, you can find a thread on using solenoids to actuate VDI at whatever RPM.

I've read those. I'm trying to avoid the extra wiring and complication.

If you want to get the VDI to work correctly, you cannot avoid doing some work. You will either have to operate the VDI via an small air pump with an RPM switch, or you can use the factory air pump with an RPM switch and a solenoid. I just did the swap, and I have my VDI working from a lumbar pump and a summit RPM switch.
