Value Question: 1985 GSL Tender Blue

1985 GSL- 130K on chassis (southern car), 3k miles on fresh C&C Rotary rebuild, One owner, A/C, Power windows, Cruise, Dual Alt pulley, Glass roof and hartop, Very clean, has 3 small imperfections: Paint chipped a little on the front bumper, small chip in paint on the door, and the top is mildly faded.

What is a reasonable fair market value?

I am going to daily drive the car while I finish the TURBOVERT, then who knows.....

Be honest....

I am going to drop some cash on it after work so the sooner you respond the better......

yah $1000 is about right, give or take. in the future, you are going to see values for the REALLY nice cars go up quite a bit more. things like original paint, low mileage, rare colors, etc.

if no rust and it runs good I'd say $1500 easy but it's harder to find a car that clean up here in the rust belt.

The value of a car like that is whatever the current owner will let it go for, and what you are willing to pay.
Good condition 1st gen's are around, but not as prolific as the ones that have been abused and mistreated. This means the nicer they are, the more disereable they are.
If you can get it for under $2K, you're doing pretty good. Even with the best of care, the faded paint is normal. It's the clearcoat that is suffering the damage, and the only way to find a car without the clearcoat damage, is finding one that has been garage kept, and not driven. From the pics you posted, it appears that everything else is in quite remarkable shape.
If you get it, convert to a 2nd gen oil cooler. That will extend the life of the engine, compaired to the beehive.

I have about 3 oil coolers laying around... It will be converted. Probably will recieve the 5 lug big breaks and the s5 turbo treatment.....

I can paint, and could probably just touch up the roof bumper and door.... I am 99% sure this will be comming home with me today..

To be honest, I *almost* hate to hear that you plan to do the big brake and turbo treatments. That is a prime example of a car that should be worth a considerable sum a few years down the road if it remains in the condition it is currently.
However, congrats on finding such a nice car, and hope you can work out an acceptable deal to aquire it.

The only "Rare" colors would be the ones used for only 1 or 2 years. Such as the '83 LE silver, Misty blue (also '83, I believe) among others.

I am Turboing the Vert I drive and if it goes well I may do this car aswell.. I love the tender blue FB's and have been hunting for one for a while... I am a sportbike rider, so there is no way I could roll a stock 12A forever.... But time will tell, maybe this car will fill the void my 1st rx-7 left when I sold it..

in nice shape, all of them. but white is kind of uncommon, the 84-85 teal blue, any of the special edition colors (80 anneversary, 80 LS, 83 limited...), maybe yellow sa's (i like yellow...), maybe odd combo's, like black with grey, or tender blue with brown leather.

to be worth something its probably got to be the original color, original paint would be better

So the general consensus is Between $1000 and $2000? Wow I thought that it would have yeilded better #'s considering the condition/color/rebuild..... That's kinda disheartening.. Oh well if it drives as good as it looks I'll be happy with it..

I didn't say it was only worth $2k max, I said you will be doing good IF you can get it for under $2K. My car is *just* an '83 GS, but I have declined $3K for it.
The car is worth what you are willing to give, and the only previous owner is willing to accept. It's a safe bet they paid over $10K for it, back in the day........

I think most everyone is lowballing. The color and interior combo is one of the best for these years, imho. With the model, condition and rebuild, it could be worth 3k to the right buyer. With the mileage, it just getting broke in for a 20 year old car.

If you pay under 2500, good, under 2k great, 1500, you should be in jail.

I went to look at it, the car is in phenominal shape. The owner has to fix a slight carb accel pump issue and a leaky exhaust but I think it is a done deal. I am ready to buy when he is ready to drop the title in my hand...

Carb has been rebuilt, and exhaust leak has been fixed. Other than the carpet needing cleaned and some fading paint she is in great shape.

It is on ebay right now.
