smoking 13 second cars for cheaper? from what i understand, under mid 14's are really possible unless you have some kind of porting. plus you would probably be running a nice carb setup, forced induction ie turbo, slicks, new flywheel, nice exhaust.. ect.. tell me a way to get my car under 13 second for that cheap. im serious, im not trying to be cocky although i know it probably seems like it, im sorry. theres a guy with a crx that runs low 14's and i would love to smoke him by the end of the school year
I don't think you understand. WinnipegGSL already did a V8 conversion to his 1st Gen.

i thuoght he quoted that he could get a 12a faster than a v8 for less money. under 13 seconds. and that he was dissappointed in the results of the v8 swap.

but as a re-read the post, he said, if you could get a 12a running faster for what he spent.. my fault.. i appologize..

Umm... you do realize that about 70% of important power for street engines is the torque factor? What do you think a car relies on to get started from a stop? Lower RPMs? Carrol Shelby himself stated "Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races." The whole reason nitrous is such a bang for the buck isn't for the horsepower factor, it's because of the explosive gains in torque it produces... hell, with a dyno, horsepower is actually figured from the torque value.. Don't get me wrong, I love my rotary, and I'm going to keep my 12A right where it is.. but wake up and don't be so blind.. cheap and reliable power does come from pistons.. they can't be too bad.. look at F1 does with them...

like I said... rotory engine's are way expensive when it comes time to build up one...I broke it down to around 4000$ for what I want in power and stuff.
NOW with a 383 stroker motor and ALM heads this woulderful little LIGHT weight car will run 11s or better.and a little NOS you in the 10s beating everything around ya laughing to the bank.
COST W/nos 3000$ tops(that with car), the reason I say this is that I know a 350 chevy in and out and can rebuild one in my sleep.
its all about what your going to do with the car RACE hondas and beat the snot out of them
$$$$$$$$ what ya have and what you willing to spend to get there.

When you are done your car I hope you at least take it to the strip once. I tried going to the local track last weekend but it got snowed out . I might have some AFR 165 aluminum heads on my car along with some good tires for next season. You might be in trouble.

Why are all of you seeing a car's performance as something to test on a drag strip??? Let's bring it to Le Mans, that's racing! Anyway, you can't convince me that a decent sized V8 is hardly gonna be heavier then a rotary. If you put 200 pounds extra, all in front, it will affect cornering. And for the guy that said "all fast cars have V8's"... Forget it: really fast cars have V10,V12 or even W16 (=>new Bugatti). Only very few production cars can match the porsche flat six either, by the way. Wouldn't that be something? At least the weight will be very down in the car. By the way, I do agree the 'Vette engine looks super.

Here's how I see it . . . (knowing that you were all just waiting for my view )

It's all about the character of the car. Mostly talking about the 1st gens here, both because I own one, and because that seems to be what most V8s are going into.

Considering that the 1st gens are rapidly becoming classics, I see it as similar to putting a V8 into a series 1 Jaguar XJ6 (using that comparison because it's very similar in many ways, and done for the same reasons) - sure the car is faster. Sure it's more reliable. Sure it costs less to run.

But you've ruined the character. You've made something interesting, fast even, and you probably haven't wrecked the handling either (although most V8 swappers seem to care only about the 1/4 mile), but what you have is no longer a classic, balanced, characterful sports car. You have a monster. Fun for now, but it won't be worth much in the future. And if you care about the character and spirit of the car as Mazda (or Jaguar or whoever) designed it in the first place, you just won't do it regardless of potential benefits as mentioned.

I would no more swap a V8 into my RX-7 than I would put a V8 - or a 13B turbo for that matter - into an MG-TC.

in response to EL PAALO: 'Simple' is what I use to describe the level of upgrade... ie stock turbo, stock ecu. Simple is generally cheaper($2000-$3000), but not nearly as fun or as upgradable as the stuff MIKE-P-28, and DF, and others are doing. DF's setup is as about as far from simple as you can get. Keeping things simple though leads to a more balanced ride without the extensive, constant upgrading a single-turbo w/ 300Hp+ rotary would require.

Custom signatures are enabled, but any graphics used in such signatures are limited to a 20K file size.

Signatures should be less than 460x200 in size, or no more than 10 lines of text. Combination image/text signatures should have no more than 5 lines of text.

There is currently no system to automatically check for these limits, so Admins and Moderators will be checking manually. Should your sig be found in violation, it will be removed without warning. It is your responsibility to then edit the sig and bring it within compliance. If you don't know how to edit an image and bring it under the 20K or 460x200 limit, don't use it! Figure out how to edit the image first or it will be removed.

er... okay...

All fast cars have V8s? Man, and here Lotus has been hoodwinking people for years with 4-cylinder land rockets like the Esprit Turbo and Elise, lightweight, nimble sportscars that could do well on both the drag strip and slalom course...

Talking

All v8 rx-7 ppl should freely head to http://www.torquecentral.com , we are getting quite a forum going there for all generations conversions. LOTS of good info going around. plz post ?'s there, they will get answered.

http://www.skatedonkey.com/futant/engine.mpg

I will have my 1rst gen 5.0 driving pretty soon with some times and dynos on the order of close to 500f/lbs w/nitrous. I have about 6K so far in the car. I can't wait. Anyway I don't feel like bothering the rotary ppl anymore, I like rotors also, but i sold mine to Gamble302. They are amazing engines, nuf said. I just couldn't accomplish what i wanted with it.
