The original Geo Metro came with a .9L (900CC) 3-banger. They upped it first to a 1.0L and then a 1.1L 3-cyl as weight grew with increased crash-protection standards. The Suzuki Swift was running a 1.3L 4-cyl. (16-valve in the Swift GTi)
I say take this V8 loser on anything with turns and smoke his ***. A week ago, I watched Blue TII beat a TransAm around an autocross course in his Honda 600GT with less than 40HP, so it's just a matter of leveling the playing field.

lol.. i think they accualy start to go down hill.

a friend of mine used to own a dodge shadow, and to get to my house you have to go up this decent sized slope. well lets just say with 16year olds in the car. we accualy came to a stop... then started to roll back. lol. we accualy had 2 people get out so it can get up the hill.

you know what I read somewhere that said that the 12a was the smallest but now that I think of it the 10a is smaller than the 12a.

I think you should tell him to f**k off. He must feel like he has to prove something....chances are he would dick up the launch, get sidways and hit a dumpster. There must be no one else with anything that resembles a sports car around. It takes a real pud to try and make themselves look good buy running a race that they know the odds are stacked in their favor. Total apples and oranges thing. Some times it takes a bigger set of nuts to stay out of the dumb ****.

Those car's aren't that fast. If it's totally stock, he's probably running high 14's at best. You can easily make your car run high 14's. I used to beat the crap out of stock 5.0's with my B16 '86 Prelude all the time. That car ran consistang 15.0's, so I know a good bit of the 5.0s were mid 15 second cars.

I dont remember a .9 litre, but they did have both 1.0 litre I-3's and 1.3 litre I-4's.

thanks

Why does this always come up? I have both an 85gsl and a 91 mustang gt. The seven will lose in a drag race but the mustang will lose in the tight twisties.

Man, I can see it now. The next teen movie. The nerdy kid driving the old rotary car......and the jock guy in his 5.0 Mustang......

BAM.....denting in the dumpster and totalling the Vanilla Ice mobile.

Just wanted to mention that please don't put a 3" exhaust on there. There is no point and you will lose lot of HP doing this as well. Stick to a maximum of 2.5"

Just tell the Mustang guy that his car might beat you in a drag race, but at least your hair doesn't automatically grow in to a mullet, Joe Dirt style

Seriously don't feel the need to prove yourself against anyone. It's not as if a ragged out 5.0 (as much as I like them) is the pinicle of performance anyways.

Well, I doubt you're going to beat him with a stock 12a. Even fully tuned, I just don't know. However, a good driver in a rx7 vs a poor driver in a 5.0... then maybe.. It'll take powershifting at 8k and a perfect run, AND the right intake/exhaust, but if you could pull that off then who knows. A good streetport would definitely stand a chance.
You've got a lot of torque to overcome there, but you've also got a serious weight advantage.
I wouldn't go with a 3" exhaust on a stockport, it's way overkill.
Honestly, I never raced a 5.0 in a 1st gen, but they are pretty decent stock cars, I think.
You're never going to convince this guy about rotaries. We all run into these types and even if you win in an older car with less than half the HP, he still won't admit defeat. It can be fun, though.
Good luck.

I have won and lost to v8s in my stock 12a. it depends on the launch. If the V8 gets a little abitious with a burnout then get him off the line

I have raced my brother's Infiniti Q45 (4.5L V8, VVT, 4 valves, stock = 278hp), and beat him off the line. Once the V8 starts breathing though, you're toast.

The 5.0 Mustangs are the only thing that my brother watches out for - the Q45 weighs 5k lbs, and the weight differential means the Rustangs will win.

Just something to think about,

a SS is about 195-200kw.

Ford makes a nice sedan and ute here called a XR8. its a 5.0 v8 that comes out stock 260kw. Oh and theres the GT Falcon which comes out 290kw standard. I dont think I would be those :P.

So a 195-200kw SS Holden is approx. 261-272 HP, depending which is the correct conversion units. Good job.

if you have a little bit of cornering and straightaways , you'll have a fair chance as long as its a rolling start. My gsl , has an intake box mod( courtesy of http://www.ten15.net/Maz.tutorials/ )As well as a custom made header/full exhaust block back, of course the rats nest . I still have to do the direct fire and such but even so at the moment , you will be able to toy with quite a few things , dont forget .....L.S.D. huge advantage over a lot of vehicles and a very expensive aftermarket add-on... cheers

Have faith in the seven my son
