Angry UUUGGGHH!!! I hate pistons!

Ok im having a hell of a time doing this brake job which is taking me a week and going. the problem i am having is that on the rear caliper( which is stock i think) the piston will not retract at all so i cant get the brake pads in at all. i have searched this alot and am coming up with nothing oh the car is a 85 gsl se

yep. Screw it. They do have a tool at the autopart stores that makes it easier.

as said before it screws in, they do have the tool, but i didn't have a ride to go to the auto parts store, so i grabbed some pliers and GENTLY gripped at the center and turned, it just takes a little bit longer this way.

I know this i have screwed clockwise as my book says no luck with pliers i tried like 5 different types of pliers and i did it hard!!! still no luck you think i should just go with some new calipers??? or what

You need one of these bro. It makes the job a whole helluva lot easier.



You can get them at napa, advanced, checker, autozone, etc. And are about 12 bucks. They chuck right into a driver just like a socket.

Could be locked up but I would try the right tool for the job first.

its locked up i had in a vice with that tool above and put all my weight on it and it didnt budge. im ordering new ones... oh well thanks for the help anyways guys

man which way you turning?

with the caliper off and in a vice and you had the right tool you must be going the wrong way lol

You can fix stuck calipers. You need to rebuild them, it's not hard but parts could be a pain to fix.

I never had this problem on my rx-7s, but i had to rebuilt my tiburon calipers. Also sometime the pistons in the bracket it self can get stuck.

True that! about a month ago a simple rear pad change turned into a caliper rebuild to a "**** that" situation, and outta frustration i just pulled the calipers off my parts car to put onto my daily. The piston was tighter than a nun.

I was turning clockwise then went counter for the hell of it. no luck ugh im getting now ones and will probably just rebuild them and have some extras. but yeah i really dont like rear calipers now hahah
