My Carter fuel pump instructions said to not use it. I used a little hylomar instead. I do use teflon tape on oil fittings.

Its fine so long as you dont get any of the stringy strands where they can get into the pump or fuel system. Teflon is inert and wont disolve or anything, its fear from mechanical damage that they worry about. Dont wrap any tape on the first few threads, but rather only wrap it on the bottom few.

I agree. rules in plumbing..never use pipe dope on the first 2 threads as it can do inside or block the pipe. I use liquid teflon....quite expensive but better to use than the tape.
