Upper Ccontrol Arm Broke...Weld On Car?

Ok, the passenger side upper control arm broke on the rear axle of my 85 GSL-SE, and I was wondering how safe it would be to just MIG it back in place while its still on the car? I mean, the tank is right there, and the vent tubes are right around there too, and the oil line runs THROUGH the arm, right? Im just kinda scared of blowing myself to pieces...

No kidding.. I wouldnt' risk a weld on such an important structural member. I would do my best to find a replacement if I were you.

BTW: what oil line would run through the upper control arm?

yeah man, just go to the junk yard and pick one up. I wouldn't trust an old control arm that already broke once.

Damn it, I meant BRAKE line, not oil line, what the hell, lol. That and its not the ARM that broke, its the MOUNT where it bolts to. I need to weld the mount back to the axle...The arm is still in one piece and fine. Its still bolted to the mount, just the mount isint attached to anything...

PS - I was gonna weld it seeing as an -SE rear end might be hard to find also, otherwise I would just swap out a whole new axle. Oh and thanks for the advise, but I was simply asking the safety of welding it on the car, not your opinion on the welds integrity...

Edit - I hope that didnt sound to mean...If it did, I didnt mean for it to, I was just trying to get this discussion back on topic

two words that apply to all things automotive:

BE CAREFUL.

Around here there's a woman and her husband in the burn unit because he was changing the fuel filter in a tiny garage and she walked in with some lemonade for him, then lit a cigarette.

She's expected to live, he's on the fence.
