upgrading alternator?

I know someone had 3rd gen alternators converted for bolt in, but from what I hear he's been done with that for some time. Was wondering if anyone tried using a 70A from a 86-88, or if there were any aftermarket bolt ins. the current now doesn't seem to be sufficient

The guy selling FD alternators (silverrotor) may have a couple left over... Last time I heard he still had a couple leftovers... Message him and see what he says.

Wait, FD alternators bolt up? Do the connections match? I know that S4 alternators are a direct swap, but I thought that everything above S4 used different connections. Is it easy to swap the connections?

well my FD alternator went in in about 20 minutes... Its really not that hard. You need the alternator and the plug for the alternator and you need a wiring diagram... and your done....

Correct! I do have a few left. I'm glad you guys like It. A noticable difference from the former 50 amp Alternator, eh?

Ya its deffinately a good upgrade, I really enjoy mine and I have only used it for a short period of time!

I have one question though, does a bigger alternator actually decrease a cars hp because of the extra force required to turn it? Because I was thinking about this and a alternator shouldn't be harder to turn, because it just creates AC current by rotating inside of a bunch of coils of wire.... If anyone has a second can you elaborate on that? (sorry for the semi-hijack...)

It does create resistance, VIA electro Magnetism.

Whenever you move a magnet past a coil of wire, it creates a magnetic field, and an electric current in that coil.

It's basically the same principle as an electric motor, but reversed:

hmmm, that makes sense. I knew it took more power to turn but I didn't understand as to why....

Thanks for the help.
