More updates.
I decided to try the tan shift **** with accenting the chrome bezel in black.
Did the same on the ebrake handle and accented the **** in black and the chrome bezel in black.
Yes I know the window switch trim is sticking up.
Has to be one of their less thought thru designs with plastic mounting clips?
Tomorrow the door panel carpeting will be black and the cargo carpet will be finished with the final coat of black.

Hye doc ... i can't wait neither ... but I ran into a little bit of a problem. something that i should of checked on before. I had to actually test my theory just today. I noticed that I could scratch the parts easier now and was killing me what was different between the first few panels that I did and most of the other stuff that I painted. The difference was some i sprayed with the SEM plastic and vynil adhesive, while others I didn't. So after testing today I found out that without using the adhesive thing by just cleaning it and sanding it, I couldn't scrape off the paint even with a key, as for the other half, well lets just says didn't take much effort. So that will be costing me probably a good 3/4 cans of paint now to redo them.
Major bummer. I don't want to settle with something that is just alright neither and end up doing all the work again. I want the best of the best .. but now i just drained a good chunk of money down the drain . What would you recommend for taking the paint off them? Paint thinner? Because i also need to take out hte clear coat that I put on there.

dj55b, I noticed that also on a few pieces. I guess that depending on the type of plastic the adhesive has an adverse affect. I can't advise you what to use to remove because of the fragile nature of plastics and their reaction to chemicals. Best thing to do is go to SEM's website and find a contact number for them to properly advise you.
Ok, I have the door panels back on with the carpet color changed to the tan. I used a very inexpensive paint made by Rust-Oleum. It is for Vinyl and fabrics and is flexable. The SEM that I was using was out of stock at the paint store so I ran out of patience and had tried this stuff before on some items. I like the finish better on this for the carpeting because it gives that sheen look.
Also in the dash picture the trick question is. What is there that is not factory?
Need input on floormats. Tan or Black?
And I better get more input or I'm going to start deleting your threads.

From this pic: I would make the
1) Scuff Plates Black
2) Possibly the top part of the door panels (from the chrome line on up) Black as well
3) Depending on how #2 looks, - possible the door opener cups in black too.
The Bin covers should definatley be all black to match the carpet. More stealth that way as well.
I am REALLY impressed by the way!

I agree with you on the scuff plates. I think the tan somewhat throws it off there.
The top of the door panel I'm im not yet sure of that. Then I would have to do the rear panels and i'm not sure how it would blend with the dash lines.
The door pull cups I think is a good idea and I'll just order in new ones of those since the ones on their are not in very good shape.
Thank you for the input.
Still would like to know what you guys think about floor mat color?

As for the carpet on the bottom of the doors I'm confused by your post saying they're changed to tan but they look black in the photo? IMHO that carpet would look better tan, just do the whole door that color to match your seats and dash. I think you might be pushing the black/tan theme too much - for example I think going to tan shifter **** and brake handle made that area look 10x better. Trying to carry that theme over to every part of the car will make it gaudy, and that would be a shame because you've done some damn fine work!

Ding! I think I know the answer - What is a pre-84 horn emblem mounted in there?

What I was asking was if dj55b was telling me that it would look better tan(the carpet at the bottom of the door panel.)
I can't see putting it to tan because the carpeting in the car is black. Every 7 that you see has matching carpeting from the floor to the door panels.
The only other thing that I am going to change at this time is the scuff plates to black because the Tan seems to throw it off.

Hey doc,
Ya i was refering to swapping the panel on the bottom back to tan. Like this the scuff plate would match better. Also the scuff plate is suppose to match the vynil trim that goes all the way around the door way.
Swap it back to tan and post up a pic. But i think that would look alot better like that and you shouldn't have to change the pic of the scuff plate like that neither.
As for the mats, I think either or will look good. But I have a feeling you might like the black better. Plus it would be easier to find , and should be easier to maintain. Just my 2 cents

I think DF hit the nail on the head with the Black mats with the Tan logo.
I'm going to try a few things tomorrow and see how it turns out.
Thanks to everyone that have shared their ideas with me. You have been a big help.

Any thoughts of painting the ashtray and a/c ***** black, or even silver on the ***** to match the other controls? I think the ashtray would look good in black.

I also have distinct memories of seeing fds with tan interior having black carpet with tan floor mats.
