Update!!! 3-25-05

Okay. We pulled my car to start it, ran it til it stopped smoking, then I drov e it home. On the way home every time I accellerated there was a loud chirping/rattling noise. No idea where it's coming form. I'm pretty sure at this point htat the fuel is not getting through the carburetor enough. There has to be some fuel getting through for it to run though. Oh ****! I just remebered. I don't have the OMP ziptied halfway open any more. So it was just sitting there. It may have been the rattling noise. Would it destroy my engine running without oil in the fuel for about 5 minutes? I only drove it home. Anyways. We're going to put the nikki back on and see if it runs with that. If it does then it will be a long time until I can get tot he carb being rebuilt or getting a new one.

check your spark plug wires. that noise is usually caused by when u criss cross the wires. say instead of L1, its in L2 or vice versa.

plug wires are in the correct spots. double and triple checked. the sound was more of a chirp than a rattle.

You'll defintley notice when the spark plug wires aren't right...I took mine out for a spin and forgot to turn the paper right side up and let me tell you, I had to floor it to keep up with traffic...just to keep up! LOL!

belts are fine. I'm pretty sure it was from the OMP arm just dangling there sqeaking and rattling against the block. We'll be putting hte nikki back on Sunday or Monday prolly. We'll see if that worx.

I jsut went out to try a few things with the carb. Nothing changed the behavior of the engine. Same old same old. However. I did wipe the top of the engine clean since it had some fuel on it and by the time I had finished playing around with the carb there was mroe fuel there, so there must be fuel going through hte carb, but not into the intakes. WTF!?!?!?!?!? I just got the engine rebuilt by a respectable rebuilder. It should be fine. I think I'm gonna go with a downdraft carb once I get all this figured out. Sidedraft just seems to be ******* me over. I wouldn't be surprised if you see a Mikuni 44PHH and wrap-around manifold for sale in the coming months.

If the engine has been expertly put together, it must be a carb problem. Can you beg, borrow or steal a temporary replacement and try that as a test?

We're going to put the stock nikki back on. That's the test.

I tried to go back to my old mikuni set-up but didnt work out with the FB's new motor....make a long story short, I tried the holley, but ended up with an IDA again.

Now the mikuni has a broken base plate and the rb holley is sitting somewhere in my backyard.

Sounds to me like the AP is leaking. Question, What difference does it make what carb you put on it if you can't tune it right? The sidedraft isn't your problem, It's the owner. Any carb will give you fits if it's not tuned right. Slow down, Check for vacumn leaks and fuel leaks, Reset your mixture and try again. If you haven't done so already, Try and find a online manual to use as a guide to get you in the ballpark.

I'll be working all weekend this week. I only get Sunday off and one other day that rotates from monday-fri. I had Friday off last week so the next day in the order is Monday. Next week I'll have Tuesday off and so on. I'm thinking of buying a mikuni rebuild kit and manual from Wolfcreek Racing. They have the pair on Ebay for ~$40. It'll be a long while before anything super happens prolly. I don't even know when I get paid at my new job.

If this sidedraft doesn't work for me I'm definitely going downdraft weber. Accelleration sounds alot better than torque.

Weber is on a shorter intake manifold. Mikuni is on a longer intake manifold. THe torque and accelleration are different because of this. Or so I've been told.
