Uni joints

Last time I replaced this was about 5 years ago with my uncle. In the manual it says that the driveshaft needs to be balanced with hi tech equipment and that you need the right size ring gears (very precise), but we never did this.

How important is this stuff, can I just put new uni joints in myself. currently a stock 12A but will be going blow through very soon so I'm not sure if its worth getting it done properly..

I was wondering the same thing. I changed my uni-joints about a year ago and haven't had any problems. I'm pretty sure you can get away with it if you mark the exact position the driveshaft was in, and make sure to line it up after you're done.

the driveshaft is externally balanced. if you look on the driveshaft you'll see a small weight or two welded onto it. you shouldn't need to balance it if you are replacing the u-joints

I've always made sure the ends go back on in the exact position they came off. Just mark the spots that are next to each other and put the new joints in.

If you do this you don't need to rebalance.
