Under dash questions
Under dash questions
I own an '83 but it has an '87 n/a motor in it. I didn't do the transplant, but, I am straightening out a lot of jerry-riggin. Well, I want to put the computer under the dash where I believe it should belong. So last night I was working on straightening out the wire harness and getting ready to put a hole in the firewall to run it though. I got under the dash and pulled the heater blower motor out to give me room. Where do these get mounted on the GSL-SE's or where do people put them in similar situations? It also had AC originally but not anymore, and I was wondering if I could remove the next section over from the blower motor, it seems to be the AC unit. I would obviously have to replumb between the blower and the heater-core. I just figure it would free up some room for mounting the computer. Is that do-able? Am I thinking straight?

The computer is located due south of the heater blower motor. You were probably leaning on it! (the cover anyways). Pull the passenger side carpet back and the computer is mounted underneath the metal cover.
When you pull the carpet back you'll see what I mean.

In the engine compartment crammed under the RH headlight. Huh, I will have to look further, I didn't come across that compartment. I wonder what the 83's ecu controls now, if anything? I honestly didn't know it had one. ah, more investigating!

I'm guessing that the FC ecu controls the new engine and the FB ecu is simply giving out a constant (disconnected bulb) "Check Engine" light as it's wondering where the hell it's engine has gone.
The funniest part about the wiring mess is that, the guy I bought it off did the project and he owns/operates the local auto/electric diagnostics garage, and people rave about his work. You would think he would take better care of his own projects. Well, it doesn't matter now because it is in my hands!

How's this for an idea: Take the cooling coils out of the big black box, and put your electronic stuff inside! Then you could maintain a stock appearance as well as providing cooling air for the electronics. I haven't gotten around to installing the duct in the picture because I took the cooling coils out of the black box previously, and plus they are a pain to get out. Just a thought. Good luck! -Mike
I wonder if there would be a moisture problem while running the heater in the rain. I didn't get a chance to look at it last night, hopefully I will tonight. The hole would be convenient, but I believe they are too small for the plug to pass through. They could be enlarged though.
