Uncommon starting problem

Ok I have searched for starting problem but nothing I find relates to my kind of problem.

First I have a streetported motor (12a). New rebuild maybe a whole mile on it, next I have a DLIDFIS, and a weber carb, underdrive pullies, alum flywheel. Timing is set with maybe like 5deg advance(if that). I can't get it to start at all either using spraying starting fuild in it, or MMO, or Trans fuild using the key. But if I get a good push start down my driveway it will start(driveway goes down hill) and I can drive it around no problem at all. Provided I don't stall it, It will idle fine, and rev fine. But I can't start it using the key it will crank and crank, I have tried 3 diff starters, 3 diff batteries, a 500amp battery jumper... and still no start. It happened before I made the DLIDFIS, and I even tried 3 diff distributors then, which led me to making the direct fire. I am at a loss. I have to stock fuel pump, but I could imagine it would still start as it does. I have spark on all plugs, I don't know anymore...

I have the battery cable going to the starter and then to the fuseable link from the battery, '83 rex. Is there anyway I could get more power out of my starter, how about an auto starter, it has double the ft-lbs as a manual starter, but would it work?

Please Help...

Have you got to drive yours around, yet? do you have a ported motor? what other mods(fuel, ignition, pullies, e fan, etc)?

I push started it, and drove it around last night some pretty heavy on the go pedal. I stalled it once and noticed it did start easier from a push start, but still won't start from the key. Although now trying to start it from the key is better, sounds more like it will start, but who knows, could just have been that the motor was hot..

What I was thinking that is there could be to much compression for the starter to turn the flywheel fast enough, and now that its getting its break it the compression might come down a tad and be a little more easier for the starter to turn.

Does anyone know if a starter for an auto car will work for a manual car?

No I don't think they are the same.

I could be way off base but- What if you put heavier oil in it? Would that help with compression when it's cold and thick?

I would think heavier oil, would raise compression, if that... I am using 20-50...

I don't know what has happened I have changed nothing, and well I drove it around again today(had to push start it) for a couple miles, and low and behold ... what do you know.. it starts of the key...

so thats my story and I am stickin to it... to much compression, needed to be broke it, with a heavy foot

I say it didn't have enough compression and now your seals are seated properly.

Glad to hear ya got it run'n!

Hehe, yes this would be the right thinking. Rebuilt rotaries have very low compression when 1st built, especially using new seals with used housings. It takes a good break in period to let the seals seat properly, and they build compression with time. Even up to a few weeks from when rebuilt it will seem to be running stronger each day.
