turning on

My brother in law freind is selling him a 82 rx7 for 200 but it has no keys. Is there any way that i can turn on the car to see if it runs before we buy it. Is the key to glove box the same as the ignition.
Thanks help would be appreciated.

No the keys not the same as far as I know, and you could try and get another ignition from a junk yard and put it in and see if it works. Other than that, seeing as you are new, Im not gonna tell you how to "hot wire" an RX-7, just because I dont know you, and I dont want you to go ripping off one of my fellow 7 owners. Nothing personal, just good measure. I would do it to anyone.

My ReX key opens the glove box and storage bins as well as hatch, door, and ignition lock.

The key from my '83 does not open anything on my '85, though it's a replacement key. Not sure if that affected it or not

If I remeber correctly...

New, 1st gens game with 2 different keys.

The Vallet Key that only works on the doors and ignition (Silver Key)

and the Master Key that also opens the glove box and storage bins (Black Head Key)

The only Key that came with my car when I bought it was a bad copy of the valet key, so I can't lock my bins or glove box, nor can I unlock my trunk with the key...

you can have the trunk key re-keyed to your key at a locksmith for about $10

you can pretty easily hotwire it, just run a wire in the fuse box from one of the hot fuses to the ign fuses, that will start your fuel pump, then theres a green wire under thesteering colum, run that to a hot source as well and that should do it, you just cant drive it cause of the steering wheel lock
