turn signal lever

Can anyone tell me how to remove the levers on the steering column? *Every* screw mounting on the plastic cover was broke when i bought the car and i cannot turn the wheel more than 1/2 a turn with the thing flopping around, so i need to remove it to test drive/push.

Also, anybody have some spare black column covers they'd like to throw my way??

The levers are made into the whole piece under the cover and behind the steering wheel. You have to remove the steering wheel and disconnect all the wiring plugs and then it slides off.. I used to have some extra stuff, but i gave MOST of it away a few weeks ago sorry

Ack...i was afraid of such a thing. I had hoped maybe the thick plastic part could be eased off, the take off the cover/put on new, and the placed back on the stalk. <sigh> oh well...i'll either glue them in place temporarily, or cut them off...

Yes, actually

It the '79 I've had sitting in the garage for about 18 months. Should be getting tags for it when I go home this summer. Sometime, i'll be swapping or fixing the tranny as well...not that i need the speedo

Anyway, I can paint marron ones black certainly...not like my interior is flawless anyway

What a sec? You just wanna replace the cover? or do you wanna remove the whole thing?

If you want to remove the cover all you have to do is pop the little thing off (has a diagram on the side of it for brights or whatever).. Talking about on the left, pop that little cap off Then you will be able to remove the shroud from around the levers

the only cap you pull of is on the headlights.. the turn signal one does not come off (i thought that too at first)
on the stering column cover, that you are trying to take off, there is a little plastic square next to the turnsignal that can pop out. as mike said, it has a diagram on how to operate the high beams...
