My basic "just to run" S4 TII swap was about $1500.
There was very little labor since I did it all myself. The only components I paid out for were the exhaust after the downpipe, the driveshaft, and the work to the fuel tank to convert to an intank pump. All 3 are more specialized type tasks and I felt it wasnt worth the savings to try and do it myself.
$1500 covered the labor for those things, the main components(complete engine and tranny from junkyard) and the detail work like new hoses, seals, gaskets, fuel line, and other expendables.
If you do a TII swap,do it right.Dont just slap it in and go.Take the time to clean up the shortblock.Replace all the vacuum hoses and tie them off.Replace all the seals and gaskets.Have the injectors worked over. Its a lot easier to do on an engine stand, out of the car.
The ACTUAL swap was more like $4000.Thats because I didnt want just a stock setup, and it was easier to do the upgrades while the engine was out.Things like clutch, light flywheel, injectors, cooling system, ignition and intake/exhaust upgrades more than doubled the cost, but also made a big difference in performance.
The change to S5 a couple years later, added a few hundred bucks more because of the custom front cover and the need for a new TPS and OMP,ect.....

That sounds really interesting...I'll make sure I look over everything and do my upgrades while the engine is out. But in any case...I was planning on doing a blow-through setup anyway. So, won't this cost a lot less?

Oh,OK most of the plumbing mess wont be an issue then.
I saw you were from CA also, so I assumed you were gonna keep it factory EFI and smog legal like I did.

I recently swapped a FI 13b (from an 84 GSL-SE) into a previously carbed car.
The 25lb full wiring loom from the GSL-SE was very intimidating.
I did all the basic wiring myself, everything that enters the engine bay from the passenger side (injectors, AFM, etc...), but for the main loom I ended up paying a specialist $350 to wire the rest of the stock EGI computer for the fuel injection system.

The rest the the work I did myself and didn't cost anything because I had a full car to get parts from.

if you do the carbed setup it will cost like 25% less than doing the efi setup....
if you dont know how to do stuff yourself itll cost alot more
you need a
Jspec motor 800
SE front cover/oil pan and gaskets--youll have to drill the oil return in the front cover.
weber carb and upper manifold--600-700 bucks
fuel pump 100 bucks
regulator 100 bucks
turbo plenium 100-300 bux depending on who you buy it from
boost pipe 50-100 bucks
you will need to buy a counter weight because you cant use the TII flywheel if you use a stock first gen tranny 75-250 bucks
you will need to make block off plates or pay for them
a downpipe will cost you 150 bucks
a cheep junk crush bent open exhaust will cost 150 bucks
oil return fittings for the turbo 30 bucks
new clutch disk/pressureplate 300 bucks
youll have to make throttle cable brackets
possibly upgrade the return line
oh dont forget oil cooler issues. that beehive wont work.
so you need an oil cooler and lines if you dont allready have them.

so being conservitive expect to have around 2500 bucks.
it.
Its NOT that difficult of a thing to do. BUT it isnt the easiest thing for a first time project. If you take your time and dont just slap it together so you can drive it you should come out decent. Expect to spend about a month assembling everything nicely if you have everything to start with.

What kind of Jspec motor? Are you referring to 13bt? And no, i'm not going to be putting the car together. I have no time whatsoever. I wake up in the morning, go to college at 7, get out at 9, go to work at 10, finish in the afternoon at 5, and from there on i'm home. And by then it's all dark, and i'm tired as hell. Not to mention I have work to do on my classes. So i'm saving up till I can get Rotarty Shack to do it for me. I hope Robert comes into the forums sometimes soon...STILL no return of my call...
