IL to turbo or not to turbo

I have a possible project on my hands. Looking for input on if I should do it or not. I have sent my carb off to get rebuilt, machined and converted to mechanical secondaries. I have been offered a mild turbo with intercooler for free. Im trying to figure out if a mild turbo will work with a stripped Nikki with stock jets. I have also added a header and switched to dlidfis. I was keeping stock jets for fuel economy but if I need to bump them up to make this work then so be it. Anyone have experiance with this?

The stock jets may or may not work, depends exactly how the carb is boost prepped and the particular setup. On mine I used the stock primary jets but opened up the secondaries to around 275-300, this was with a stock port 12a and TII turbo, dyno'd 200rwhp 210tq @14psi and 11.5 AFR. The accelerator pump jet should be enlarged or removed if possible, I ran mine with the stock AP but it would bog a bit if I floored it too quick.

How'd you run your oil supply? Did you use the stock tii turbo manifold? What did you do to boost prep the stock carb? Bad83 posted up how he boost prepped his, did you do the same? 14psi on stock motor?

I used a -4 stainless braided line for the oil feed line, I removed the oil pressure sensor and put a barb fitting in there to supply the oil. It would be better to use one of the oil filter pedestal adapters, or find a T fitting for the oil pressure sensor. I used the stock TII exhaust manifold, just a bit of grinding to get it to match the 12a exhaust gasket and a spacer to make it clear the intake manifold. I boost prepped the carb myself, can't post instructions on how I did it since I didn't figure it out for myself. All I can say is it's really easy, remove all emissions and block off everything not necessary, leave 1 solenoid connected. Yes, 14psi on a bone stock 12a, that's the limit for reliable boost on a stock engine. I ran 8-10psi most of the time on the street, only turned it up if I was losing a race but it was close enough that a few more HP would let me win

See with my previous vr6 turbo project I just ran a T fitting right at the oil pressure switch for oil feed. I drained it in the side of the oil pan. Where do you tap in your drain? What do you do about fueling besides the jets on the carb? Any fuel pressure regulators or anything? Did you make your own carb hat? If so, care to post any pics?

Not to be that guy... But there is way too much information for blowthrough turbo on this forum. I've been building mine for about a year. The fuel lines need upgraded, you need a boost referenced FPR, fuel injection fuel pump, carb hat, most people run premix I'm thinking, most Tao the front cover just below the omp forthe return... Start searching and read until your eyes bleed. The more you know, the less of a chance of you blowing it up. There's more I left out... Distributer needs welded, you NEED atleast a Wideband, boost, and water temp gauge. Best would be water temp, oil pressure/temp, boost, Wideband, and egt.. Tree is a lot of stuff that goes into a turbo car. Happy searching guys!
