Turbo FB Website

Just set it up. If you have a turbo car, or you're thinking about building one, take a look. Most of the info was gleaned from my last three years of work on the project. I welcome constructive criticism.

Thanks -- it's a real basic Google website, so I didn't even use HTML. I'm sure it could use some more bling. What do you recommend?

Nice job.

I would recommend putting that same information into a single thread over here. We could Archive it, Add to it,put links to other threads in, edit it, etc.

Nice work elwood.

EDIT: Thanks for including the information on your brakes, I was wondering what the spec's were on them.

It's pretty amazing in person!

Thanks -- I'll have to fire my photographer (me) and get a better one (my wife). Since my car sees some road course duty it's expecially important to get a few good pics before I stuff it into a wall somewhere

Pedals

They're Momo "Grip" aluminum pedal covers. I removed the rubber covers, drilled holes in the OEM steel pedals, and bolted them on. With the aluminum covers, they're a little wider. I have fairly big feet so now I can heel & toe by just rolling my ankle -- the inside portion is on the brake and the outside is on the accelerator. If you don't like the feel afterwards, it's easy to grind off excess material to get the right shape.

Also, it would be very easy to make your own out of some Al diamond plate. They're fairly thin (about 1/8" thick), so it would be simple to bend and cut to shape.

only thing I see missing is a upgraded brake master and clutch master swap and mosler axels. Of course the mandatory 'no pistons' or turbo fb crew sticker

Master Cylinders -- Why change them? I designed the brake system around the OEM master cylinder and rear brakes specifically so I wouldn't have to alter it. As for the clutch MC, it's all OEM, why would you change that?

Moser Axles -- we'll see. The OEM ones are still holding up, so I guess I'll change them if they fail. I'm not a drag racer, so they may last.

Turbo FB Crew Sticker -- I'll take one of those. Where can I get one?

hmm, well I deffinately can be wrong. I was under the assumption to run T2 brakes/trans that one needs the T2 master cylinder for both respectively.

I'm not running T2 calipers (see the pics) -- they're StopTech. But even if they were T2 calipers, I don't think a T2 brake MC would be necessary.

As for the clutch release system -- everything is FB, except the braided SS line, which is a T2 one (the length is a little shorter and seems to fit better).

What parts did you use? Where did you buy the parts? Was the install hard?

RX-7 Chris, before you think about a big brake upgrade, is there a specific reason you need one?

Other than rapidly stopping, over and over again, in a short time -
(such as at a track), is it necesary?

The reason for big brake kits is usually to prevent brake fade.
You car doesn't bring ABS, and I am sure you can lock your stock
brakes up with minimal effort.

You would only experience brake fade if you are continuously accelerating
very fast, and then rapidly braking, over and over again. Again, such as
at a track event. (and usually in the Turbo induced triple digit speeds)

I have a TII brake swap, and the difference is minimal over my
properly functioning stock braking system (with Hawk Pads).

Personally I think it felt better before the swap, because it was very well balanced.
Mazda's engineers did a great job on the 4 wheel disc brakes of these litte cars.

I don't go racing on a track, and I only upgraded because I needed
to swap to 5 lugs up front (to match the Ford 8.8 Rear).
(Now there are other options that didn't exist then)

Otherwise, my properly functioning stock setup would have been fine.

By the way, I keep stating "properly functioning" in bold, because it is very important.
Replacing your brake lines with Stainless Steel ones, replacing your brake fluid with an upgraded fluid,
getting slotted disc rotors, and upgraded brake pads will have an enormous increase in
the efficiency on your relatively stock braking system.

Just trying to save you some headaches, and some money.
But hey, what do I know?

I may end up just doing that. I'm doing the rear disks tonight. I'm installing new rotors, calipers, caliper brackets, hardware, and Hawk HPS pads. I'm running stock lines right now untill I do the front setup then I'll go to SS. I may just do what you say and go with powerslot rotors in the front and hawk hps pads there as well. My car is my DD right now but next year I will be using it for autocross.
