Turbo Exhaust Mani

Does anyone know where to find a 12A Turbo exhaust manifold at? Or what is the difference between the TII manifold and a 12A turbo manifold. Are they interchangeable?

They are not interchangeable as far as I understand. The engines use different ports, so you would have to get a either a custom turbo manifold made, or like you suggested, use a 12a Turbo manifold. The 12a Turbo engine was only sold in the Japanese domestic market. However, there are some people stateside who have had 12AT's imported, perhaps you could get ahold of one, although I bet it would be hard to get one.

There are turbocharged 12A's on the boards, do some research using the search function about the best way to go about doing it. Maybe some of the 12AT guys will post in here too.

The 13B manifold wont fit a 12A because the 13B engine is "thicker". Meaning the distance from center to center of the exhaust ports is greater. You can use a 13B manifold if you build an adapter from a 12A flange to a 13B flange, or, just weld a 12A flange to the 13B manifold and do some port matching. make sure if you weld to the 13B manifold you use an experienced welder if you're not, as welding to cast iron isnt easy. Personally I would try and fabricate something and bolt it together using a 12A gasket at the engine, and a 13B gasket on the other side of the adapter to bolt to the manifold. Be careful fabricating since you dont have a lot of room between the motor and "frame rail" or idler arm on the passenger side. Of course, you could also try and track down the rare 12AT manifold, or just custom build an entire manifold from a 12A flange, some pipe, and an appropriate turbo flange.

Search. youll find plenty!! but as stated above not just a bolt on deal. with some adjustments u can get the 13b mani to fit the 12a. Youll jus need plenty of tools on hand. You should take a look at my thread and if u have questions pm me. +1 welding cast iron not the easiest espacialy since the header flange is made out of steel heating up the iron with a torch before you weld helps alot.

Before you run out and buy a 12A turbo mani, you should have some hp goals and purpose for the car firmly in mind, along with any needed upgrades. i.e., brakes, drive train and suspension. Many of the older 12A turbo manis have a T-3 flange, the 13Bs have their own unique bolt pattern and a T-4 flange will give you a much wider range of rotary suitable turbos to choose from.

I have a 12AT engine, and a T4 TII manifold.. I can weld the flange from the 12A manifold to the TII right?

It's been posted before but I can go over it again. You can not weld the cast iron manifold. Instead you make an adapter to go between the 12A keg and the TII turbo mani. Buy a 12A and 13B header flange, then weld 2 short pieces of 2" schedule 40/80 steel pipe between them. Keep it simple and short so the turbo doesn't interfere with frame rail.

Downside is you need 2 turbo exhaust manifold gaskets. The TII one is over 50 bucks, don't know where you'll find a 12A one.

I have not done a turbo before but I am think about it. My plane is to pick up somethings like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Turbo...Q5fAccessories and modify it to fit the 12A ive seen one on ebay for 50 bucks. And http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T4-Tu...Q5fAccessories this is cheap for a turbo. this is what i have in mind. Now just gotta decide draw-through or blow-through
