Turbo 1st Gen people... question
Turbo 1st Gen people... question
what rear end are you using and how much power are you pushing. The reason I ask is that I'm pushing 245 at the wheels and going to upgrade to a BNR stage 3 early next year. I've heard that the stock SE rear end is only good for about 300 at the wheels.

I've got over 250hp at the wheels on a Dyno Dynamics which is closer to 300rwhp on a Dynojet with a locked (welded) 12A diff. No problems as of yet. It all depends how hard you are on it.
guys over at torque central(only place to find fast first gens) are in the tens on the factory rear. some of them on a pretty serious tire. I haven't gone that fast yet, and use a smaller 20x8 14 et drag with no problems yet/
Any 84-85 rearend will give you the strongest bolt in setup availible....doesnt matter if its an SE or not,the axles and bearings are all the same size......although only the GSL and GSL-SE had LSD....obviously.
Ive run about 300 crank HP through my SE rearend for year and years now, with no failures.Turbo rotaries still dont make massive lowend torque like large displacement engines.Youd have to run a small, restrictive turbo or a complex twin turbo setup in order to make punishing lowend torque, with a 2 rotor.
That said, the majority or guys who blow their rearends either are beating on them(drifting, clutch dropping, running a solid puck clutch, constantly racing, running slicks,ect)....or they utilized an already worn out rearend when they went turbo.
Heres my 100K mile plus SE rearend after about 25,000 daily driven miles behind my S5 TII. 245-17" street tires,LSD,14psi with a TO4B hybrid.....I dont baby it,but I also dont beat on it.No damage,no abnormal wear,no twisted splines....I only tore it down to replace a noisy pinion bearing.

you obviously dont know what youre talking about. pretty much any of the turboed guys in here run around 12's. is 680whp12a is the only one you know about then you apparently arent on the forum that much. what about directfreak? heres a moderator of this section and hes running way faster than 12's. remember? the mod that asked you to change your pic the last time it was something so distasteful?

Can anyone argue that if you want to find info on how factory rears are holding up on cars with serious tires; its easier to search and find that info on torque central?

After this thread, I found a TON of more useful info on TC than searching this site.
You don't see alot of the turbo guys starting threads in the first gen sections because they aren't posting about how to do stuff on there own car, but instead they are helping others. The turbo guys aren't the ones posting "how can I remove my rats nest", "What exhaust would be the best" etc threads.
EXACTLY.
I put up about 1 thread a month,if that.I dont claim to be one of the fastest FB's here, but Im pretty sure Im in the mid-high 12's......I prefer reliable and simple, over all-out HP madness.
These days,I actually enjoy helping people, more than I enjoyed learning from others, in the past.......makes me feel less like an obnoxious newb!

That doesn't change anyhting, I've already gotten in the 12's on a 185/14 all season, with a 2.8 60'. I'm talking about finding info on people using slicks on factory rears. It much easier to find the info on torque central.

that can be a woopsi-daisy
