Turbo on a 12A questions

My buddy has a 84 GS thats got a 12a with a rebuilt stock motor about 80k miles on it, and its carb with RB intake and RB street port exhaust. He's wondering if he can take a small turbo, slap it on there with a 12A turbo manifold, get a small intercooler to run with it and be good even though he's running carb instead of fuel injection. so my question is will this work? or is this setup with the carb not going to be able to handle the turbo and will it possibly blow all the gaskets on the carburator? any advice would be great. thanks!

I'm not sure if it would work with the 12A's carb. I think you need a blow-through carb. You might need lower compression too depending on the boost. It would be a pretty sweet setup though if you guys got it together.
also, where did you find a 12A Turbo manifold??? I need one cuz i was just going to make my own but if I could find one it would save me a lot of time and frustration.

The simple answer is, with the conditions you stated above, no. You pretty much have oversimplified everything, he should stick with what he has got until he knows what he is doing. Other option, forgo the search button and pay someone
who knows more.

Blow through turbo systems work just fine when setup right, and the stock Nikki carb can be modified to work under boost pressure.

A "small" turbo is not going to work,if you mean small in terms of car engines. The stock T-18 turbo used on rotaries is bigger than nearly any stock car turbo out there, save for some large 6 cylinder engines like the GN or Supra.....most definately no 4-banger turbo is going to be adequate, rotaries just move too much air for them to keep up.The best bet for a mild boosted rotary application is a stock T-18 from a 2nd gen TII.Its easy to bolt up and moves enough air to make the power.

And yea, youve over simplifed things greatly........turbocharging an engine isnt just slapping the turbo on and making some pipes. You have to adress all aspects of the engine from ignition timing, fuel delivery, drivetrain strength and cooling. Please search and research, then come back with specific questions. It can, and has been done, just like your friend wants to do.All the info you need is right here, its been covered a million times over the years.

Ill drop the name again, seems like hes doing some good things for turbocharging 12a's. Rob at rotaryshack. But I guess that hes starting to get the yaw syndrome though. Trying to get a hold of him can be a real pain. I dont know if hes on vacation agian but Ive been waiting a couple of weeks for him to get a hold of me.
