True story, or guy pullin my leg?

Ok, I had a conversation last night with a guy that just got hired on at my work. He noticed my 7 and we started talking about them 'cause he used to own one himself. Anyway, long story short, he said a buddy of his has a 1st gen with a 24a motor in it. He said it was basically a small airplane engine.

Truth or BS?

a rotary airplane engine is a piston engine, more often called a radial engine. that might be what the guy is talking about, don't know how you would put one of those boys into an RX-7 though.

it's probably some yahoo that built a plane with two 12A's ... i saw a plane with two 13B's about two years ago. the guy probably duplicated that with 12A's ...

as for the 24A in Rx-7-****, it's crap!!!! and i'll stand by that until he can confirm with pictures!

BTW,
revhed that was great!!!

Nope. There ARE wankel rotary engines for aircraft applications, most famously being used by Mosler for his 'flying car' concept but available commercially for everything from kit planes to derigibles (the latter being diesel rotaries!)

The Mosler was to have been released in the '60s... then the '70s... then the 80's... and so on.

Let's face it; the easiest way to get something to fly is to put lifting bodies on it (fixed or rotating wings), not try to power a brick through the sky by brute force, with no failsafe if the engines fail (bricks don't glide terribly well)

We now resume the regularely scheduled thread, already in progress...

Would a four rotor E-shaft even be able to stand up to the abuse?

I saw that page too and was aware of that, but there are also some people who misconstue a "rotary engine" to mean a "radial engine", because the term rotary is sometimes used for both of them. Most of them come in anywhere from 10-16 cylinder. Someone back me up on this.

Jeez, I've been saying Mosler.

Mosler is the cool car guy making Rapotrs, etc.

I meant to say Moller, the original thinking aeronautic engineer

EDIT: I can see the rotary/radial confusion But I was referring to aircraft wankel engines, not the radials.

Maybe this is what you were talking about. According to the source, the've developed a modular fuel efficient, low emissions rotary, where you just keep bolting rotor housings together (up to 4) ...530cc's each.
Moller's flying bricks are shown here.

This one guy I was talking to about rx-7's told me his nissan credensa had a rx-7 engine in it. I asked him if it was stock and he told me that was the way he bought it. I looked at the car, it was a stock cresaunt motor in there, I told him this wasnt a rotary. He said well then its one of the cylinder rx-7 engines. I then tried to tell him that they didnt come in a cylinder engine. So he started to yell at me and tell me I was full of ****. I laughed at his cresaunt then went home. There are a lot of weiners out there...
