Tried DLIDFIS and car wont start

I tried to do the DLIDFIS set up and got everything wired to the diagrams from Jeff20B's site and i got spark and it sounds like it wants to start then it backfires and scares everyone around me everytime it does. Dont know if my timing is way off or if im missing something.
If anyone can help i would appreciate it.

Is it possible you reversed the red and green wires? If you did, the timing will be way off. Check the timing with a timing light.

it doesnt matter if the red and green wires are reversed. If the wires are reversed, timing will run backwards. First, check if you have juice to the coils. I personally use fog lights relay to power up the 2 coils.

Since I've never actually hooked up DLIDFIS on a 1st gen, I can't offer any more help than what is in my article. Sorry.

Ah
I have juice to the coils, 12.23 volts and around there.
It sounds like it wants to start, I have spark, um, it just sounds like the timing is off.

This may sound dumb, but you have the plug wires doing to the right plugs, right?

I don't mean to be insulting, but that's how it sounds, from the symptoms.

L1 to the lower front rotor and L2 to the lower rear, right?

it doesn't matter which one of the leading plugs it goes to. They fire at the same time. Unhook the trailing plugs altogether, and then make sure the spark plugs wires hooked to your direct fire coils go to the bottom plugs!!. You can then get the trailing plugs setup up later when you know it runs.

ill post pics of what my set up looks like in a little bit.
yea there pluged up right.
this issnt my first 7, its my second.
my first was a 88 fc. Before i blew the engine horsing around it had a msd 6al on it with a weber 45dcoe, 2" headers that i put together, straight pipe to duel borla cans, and a little street port.
im hooking the msd to the trailing side.
i followed the diagram on the site and printed a few pics so that i could refere to them as i went along.
i started this progect so that i could have something to do and cause i like toying with rx7s and make a habit of completly tering apart the car and modifing everything.
when i get stuck i refer to this site.
love the site, very helpfull at times.
just now i cant seem to find the answer to my problem.

this will sound stupid but when removing the plug wires did you make sure that the clip inside didn't get ripped off the inside wire some?

This is what my setup looks like.

The trailling coil and the igniters.

A close up.

The relay.

Another shot of the igniters and coils.

Im thinking about just riping it appart and redoing the whole thing over.

hey man, let me come over and take a look, I am running the same setup and am currently hanging out in marietta today. Wouldn't take much for me to check it out before you rip it all apart. Call me at 404-434-0639. Aaron

Dude, is your dizzy cap on backwards? Because I was just out looking at mine, and the rubber cap on yours is 180 degrees from where it is on mine. Would that even matter, DLIDFIS gods?

Just fired mine up today since my MSD install. Check the timing. You may have to advance/retard a bit. Mine worked only if I removed the spark cables an inch from the coils.

Yeah, it is backwards. Perhaps the spring clips were removed some time in the past and put back in the wrong locations? Or maybe the little idiot-proof tab has been circumvented (bent/removed etc)?

Disable trailing for now so it won't interfere with getting DLIDFIS (leading) to run.

$100T2, I haven't studied a cap in a while, but since the cap is only used for trailing in a DLIDFIS install, it doesn't matter at this point. I'll go take a look right now...

If using the leading part of the cap to run the trailing sparks, as I recommend, it won't matter whether the cap is correct or 180° off because the rotor has dual terminals; 180° apart at the leading (lower) section.

Studying the trailing section now... Ah, it appears trailing is unaffected as well. Just to be sure, anybody else care to check their caps and rotors to make sure I'm not smoking something?
