Trick to help diagnose and run experiments on flooding carb
Still judge myself a newbie, so taking a risk posting an idea that maybe is common knowledge!
Been wrestling with flooding issues on a Nikki and really struggling with a setup that allowed me to test float heights, needle combinations etc without dumping gallons of fuel into the engine when the idea failed. The mighty Benjamin4456 suggested running the carb in a bucket and that fixed the fuel in the engine issue. But still hard to run diagnostics as by the time I had run from the drivers seat to the carb it would already be pouring gas and too late to see how it was developing eg was it one or both float chambers.
Ended up running a couple of wires with male spade ends on them to the fuel pump fuse socket and attaching the other end to a simple switch. Cost me nothing as made from bits I had around, and made a HUGE difference to the process. I could turn the key to ON, then blip the fuel pump with the switch whilst at the same time monitor both chamber windows easily and work out what was going on. Really turned an unpleasant process into something that I could really work with. Car is now running!
