Transmission - Swap or rebuild?

Hey, just wanted your opinion on something. I have an FB with a stock engine and auto transmission. I also have another full engine and 5 speed transmission I pulled out of a parts car. My current engine purrs like a kitten. The spare engine, I don't know. It was stored for about 1 year, condition unknown. The owner said it ran OK.

Do I take a chance and drop the whole new engine and 5 speed in and hope for the best? Or do I just pull the tranny, flywheel, etc and put the 5 speed on the current engine? The latter sounds like more work, but at least I know the engine works.

Let me know what you think!

If your engine runs great, than don't take the chance. The other engine could have major problems. It's also alot less work to just drop your auto and swap in the manual, than to swap the engine and tranny.

Swap tranny, flywheel, front counter weight?, and you will need a non auto drive shaft, a pedal set, clutch hydrolics, and lines.

Yah, that's what I figured. I pulled everything I should need off the parts car. I have seen a few write ups in the archives so I will give it a go later in the fall. Any advantage to swapping the diff too while I'm there? Was there a difference between the diffs they put on the 5 speed vs A/T?
