Unhappy Transmission noises

As soon as I up-shift or down-shift into 2nd gear with the clutch in, I hear this scraping noise that sounds like a bearing. It's also present on fourth gear, although it's much quieter than 2nd gear. My question is: where can I buy parts for the transmission? Mazdatrix doesn't seem to have anything nor does Victoria British. Is my only hope a Mazda dealership?

What part are you looking for? Sounds like your synchros to me. What kinda oil do you have in there?

Is there a rebuild-kit that I can get?

I've got Pennzoil Synthetic gear lube in there.

Before you go jumping into a tranny rebuild perhaps you should try changing your fluid. It's cheap and then you can rule out that as a possiblity. Maybe the stuff you have in there ain't doin the job.

Could it be your throw-out bearing?

As far as tranny parts, I think your stuck with going to Mazda for that. But personally I would just get a tranny off a junker before diving into a rebuild for a daily driver.

I doubt it's the throwout bearing because it does this with the clutch out also AND it doesn't do it in any other gear except 4th........

I'll change fluid and see if that helps. It seems like 2nd gear is really the problem because 1st and 3rd make no noise at all.

Will the Redline have any negative effects on the transmission seals since it's synthetic?

I agree just find a lower mileage tranny in a junkyard (I can think of 4 off the top of my head that would work) and use that. You could have it changed in an afternoon. Even if you do replace the part making the noise your tranny still has ~180k on it so other stuff is bound to start showings its age soon. Changing fluid is probably not gonna do anything but like he says you might as well rule that out.
