Transmission Fluid Question
Hi,
I just got a 5-speed to replace the worn out 4-speed and I drained the fluid and don't know what weight or grade to use in it? And how much to use? Oh yeah this is a racecar so I guess the more performance minded fluid would be best. Thanks in advance for the help!

I like to use a 50/50 mixture of gear lube and ATF (per the book "how to hotrod and race your datsun). The ATF still provides plenty of lubrication, but has lots of detergents that will clean all the crud out of the synchros, keep if form coming back, and results in fast smooth shifting. I've used this in several trannys over the years and always with great results...

If you want to run a synthetic, which is the best thing to do, the main guys are royal purple or amsoil. I'm biased to amsoil since they are the origionators but thats your decision to make.
