I remember when they didn't...those project kits got me started and taught me alot. My dad used to live in LA, and I remember those places you mentioned. He was a radio engineer, so I got to go to all of them and be amazed. I kept thinking that there must be something like that around here, but those days are over I'm afraid. Back to mail-order nonsense, I guess.

glass of salt water, solar panel, and a motor from a broken toy. those were good times.
I checked out that digikey place, and it's a pain, so I'll keep looking until I find what it is I need.

Holy Hell! I love this thing! Idles better, starts easier, response is unbelievable! Someone needs to start getting these things mass produced. One word descibes this...WOW! I fnally got some proper plug wires and some 2nd gen ngk br7eq plugs for it and it is amazing what it has done! I will give results on my new gas mileage as I am sure it will be better with fuel getting burned better. Props to Kent! Someone pop that man's colla.

Just finished installing the trick, and taking the ride out for a spin, and WOW. What a world of a difference, idle is cleaner, started up much easier, and car feels much better when driving. Its an amazing change, I'll start measuring gas milage too.
I put in the BR7EG Platinum plugs, just simply amazing response.
Thanks again Kent on a great job!
But...now it also looks like I need to rebuild my carbs, and re-sync them...plus I got a leaky intake gasket..coolant all over. Well, one thing at a time...

Out of all the schematics I've found on this thread, none of them appear to adhere to the lastest build of this circuit. I'm just going to keep testing until I find a way to set it up, I guess. Has anyone done the new gas mileage calculations yet?

I will try to put up the latest schematic. It is hard because I can't do it from work (they are a little sensitive about hooking up your laptop to the network) and I am waiting on my internet connection at home. It takes up to 4 weeks to get internet here. The lines are owned by France Telecom. Whomever you get your service from will send you the modem (in the case of DSL) and then you have to wait for that company to put in a request with France Telecom and then wait for France Telecom/ new provider to switch the line over. You may even loose phone service a couple days in the process because they actually cut the line. Customer service or even getting electricity, etc. is very different here. There are no 1-800 numbers. You usually have to pay like 0.36Euro/min for these calls. They usually then put you on hold, etc. The process of most things is slow. People here are very nice. They don't smell bad either (people in Paris smell really nice, actually (being one of the fashion capitals)). People also greet each other ever day with a hand shake or the case of a kiss on each cheek (women usually do this). So every morning at work, you go around the building and say hi to everyone, shake their hand, and ask how they are. The keyboard layout is a bit different as well (makes it hard for me to type).
I am also putting together a write-up for the simple circuit. I need to finish writing a journal paper first, though. Once things get settled a bit, we will see if we need to change the design at all and then look into how to get more of these made. Hope the circuits are working well for everyone.

Hey Kent,
Well it sounds like you are doing just fine over there besides the customer service. I have not had a chance to install my circuit yet but I am debating on wether I should leave everything stock before I go to get a smog in a couple of weeks or just install the Transistor Trick and see how it goes. I have a friend that works at a smog testing center and I am going to see if he would let me run the test with stock setup and then with the TT.
If I get a chance to do this I will post the results so everyone can see.
By the way Kent What time is it over there for you?

Still running awesome for me 2! . I wish I could check my gas mileage, but I've developed a slight leak up by the filler neck, and it starts leaking if I fill it up all the way. So for now, its strictly half tanks until I go on a trip or something (or fix the damn problem). Also, with the addition of the Sterling carb, I would have to put my old carb back on to get a good before/after comparison. Somebody needs to do a dyno comparison.....
Take care Kent, glad 2 hear that things are going well in the land of cheese (and wine)!

Wow, sounds like getting DSL in France is about the same as getting it here through Sprint. People lose phone service for days, get everything working, then Earthlink (Sprint's partner) turns it off because they never received the subscriber information and the tech that set up the service used his generic login which expired.
I've been setting up to put this circuit together on a test board. Waiting for parts right now. I've been basing my construction off of the latest blue board that was posted here. This is a first for me, as far as real circuit construction, but I'm assuming that all of the "stars" on the board are grounds. Everything else I've been able to figure out. When I actually get the parts, we'll see how it all goes.
Well, good luck Kent on getting the internet service up, and have fun there in France! If you get a chance to try fois gras, let me know how it is. My fiance really wants to know since she saw it on Iron Chef.

Okay, the gas milage results are in!
Before this trick was installed, I had Jeff's DLDFIS (or whatever the acronym is), and I would be getting about 360-370 km per tank before I had to fill up.
After installing this trick, I managed to get 423 km before having to go fill up!!!!
Conclusion... After a fillup or two, this thing pays for itself!
A very awesome mod...one that gives you power and save gas!

Hey Jon...
Any chance of having someone (ME) break yours in for you so its "PROVEN" when youre ready to go ahead with your install...
Hey..., Twas worth a try !!!
Hey Kent;
Yes, things are a bit different there for real, I have heard the same From the Paris office of a firm I was with... Everything has to go through that one provider. But Im happy you are focussing on the positive aspects though. Enjoy all the smooching, its totally ok.
"Fois Gras... " I would'nt eat it if they called it what it was.. lol but when done right, it really is good "Brain food"
Hey Brian,
Havent seen anything from you lately; What r U working on these days ?

Just installed my "black box"
I was pretty excited when I got the tranisitor box in the mail from Kent. I was thrilled when I got my coil pack in the mail when I couldnt find one in a local JY. I put it all in my SE and now I officially have WOOD!
I got it all hooked up and started it - sounds pretty good, but my car idled smooth before too. My timing was a bit off now and my car wasnt fully warmed up so I took it out for a spin. Holey crap! I caught a nice 2nd without even trying and right before I came back home I ran it up to 7k rpm and it screams!!! Im stoked and still have lots left to do to make it even better (tommorow - its late!).
- readjust timing (maybe try advanced it a bit too)
- put 2nd gen plugs for leading
- new plug wires (mine are pretty old and cheapo's too)
The whole job will cost me under 100$ but thats including a nice timing light. I would have paid much more too!!
Thanks alot Kent!

Anybody have a current schematic? Sounds like this thing is worth checking out, and I'm heading over to the PnP today so I'll pick up some FC coils.Any other FC parts I need?
GSL-SE addict: where are you in France? I spend a fair amount of time in the south, my wife has a house near Rodez, and I'm thinking of shipping an FB there. Do you have a 7 in France?

Glad the circuit is working well for you guys. Glad to see improvement in the gas mileage department as well. I was also very surprised how much of an improvement this circuit gives over stock (haven't tried the auto-switching yet. Can't wait.). The current circuit is much like the one posted. I eliminated the right and center output transistors (and resistors). I also added a 0.1uF cap between the 5v output of the regulator and ground (improves stability of the voltage). Yes, those cross things are connections to ground in that circuit. Hopefully this will give you guys enough to go on until I can get more stuff posted.
As for France: I am living in Aix en Provence (near Marseille) in the southern part of France. It is a nice area. I am working near a small town called Saint Paul lez Durance. I have tried frois gras. We had a big dinner one night at the conference in Avignon, and frois gras was part of the meal. It is goose liver, but it isn't ground up like pâté. I guess sometimes it isn't really even cooked. So it is just sliced goose liver with wine over it. I didn't really care for it. Not that it tasted real bad, but just didn't taste good to me. The French really love it, though. They serve it for Christmas and New Year's. That meal also had goat cheese (really strong), veal (pretty good), and some sorbet for dessert. They use 4 wine glasses at the table (one for water, one for red wine, one for white wine, and one for champagne). That dinner went on for over 2 hours. I didn't finish to like 11:30pm. People tend to eat dinner late here. Many restaurants don't open until like 7 or 8pm for dinner. Some restaurants only open a couple hours for lunch and then a couple hours for dinner.
I don't have a 7 here. I don't even have a car. The bus to work doesn't cost anything and I just walk everywhere else. I am kind of glad that I don't have a car. Parking is terrible and driving is just crazy. A lot of the cars are pretty banged up. You also don't see many riced out cars here either. There isn't even that many civics, etc. on the road. I did see a Peugeot with a fart can and I did see a riced out car the other day (think it was a Peugeot). I guess you call it FDM, yo. It is quite an experience. You don't find things in the store that you are used to such as Ranch and Thousand Island Dressing. Soda comes in either 1.5 liter bottles or 0.33 liter cans (12 oz). The wine and cheese section at the store is absolutely huge. You wouldn't believe the selection in even a small grocery store. We have a TV now. We have the 7 French channels that are broadcasted over air. There are a lot of American shows and movies (CSI, NCIS, Charmed, ER, Law&Order, etc.), but they are all dubbed in French. The internet service that I am getting is ADSL2+. It has a theoretical max speed of 20Mb/s for 14.90 a month. We are also getting TV over the DSL line through the same company (6 euros/month extra for 46 channels). The tuner that it comes with can also pick up about 18 free channels over the air. The system is called TNT. It means terrestrial digital TV. You can pick up those channels with just the tuner and a normal antenna.
