Tranny swap
Will a 5 speed tranny bolt into a car with an auto tranny without doing any kind of modifications to the mounts on the car or tranny. I am wanting to put a 5speed from an 81 into an 82 with an auto. I know all the parts I need I just need to know if any kind of modification are required and if so how difficult they may be.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, that one specifically will.
Its the auto trannies with overdrive that are slightly longer and had the mounts moved back slightly.
As far as i know, the 82' never had the OD, the 5 speed will bolt up just fine.
You will need to replace the flywheel with one from the same year engine, or use the auto tranny counterweight with a lightweight flywheel.
EDIT- you will need the crossmember from the manual tranny, as I believe it is different from the auto. But, the holes on the chassis will line up just fine.

According to the part #s listed for flywheels on Mazdatrix the 81 and 82 engines used the same flywheel and counter weights. Would the counter weight be the same in an engine with the auto trannie as one with a 5 speed? Seems like I have seen people have different answers to this question before and just need to make sure about this.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
