I am changing the tranny fluid and the rearend fluid and was wondering what type i should use and how much i need. I have an 80 SA with a 5 speed.

 

I just changed my tranny fluid, and it used about 2 and 1/4 1 liter bottles. so about 2 and 1/4 liters. I used a semi synthetic SAE 75W90. I plan on doing the diff aswell, Im also curious as to how much it takes.

 

Fluid specs and quantities can be found in the FSM.

 

according to the FSM, It only takes 1.7L..I put in a little over 2. I just kept filling it untill it started to flow back out of the hole.

 

A note about the drain and fill PLUGS: these are tapered, so over-torquing will actually spread the thread-hole wider, so go easy on tightening

Royal Purple! 75w90 for the rear, and I dont remember what I used for the tranny.

 

i have redline MT90 in my trans and royal purple 75w90 in the rear.

 

Tip: Remove the FILL plug BEFORE the DRAIN plug. This applies to both the tranny and the rear end.

Yes, you read that correctly...

I tried to change the rear diff oil in my mother's truck. Drained it and couldn't get the damn fill plug out. The bolt was rusted in and rounded off... I had to remove the axle, turn it upside down, fill it through the drain, then put the axle back in. Turned a 30 minute job into a weekend job.

 

I bought my son his first car, 1987 Mazda RX7 non turbo. We just put the tranny back in after doing a new clutch job. My son left his manual at school and I am trying to fill the tranny back up with fluid.
My question is, I see the drain plug, then above that on the side the check plug. When I feel around for the fill plug (towards the top drivers side of the tranny), I feel two plugs. One right above the other, so, I tried a 14 mm open end wrench (someone said it was 14 mm I think) and as it turns out, feels like both are 14 MM.
I am unsure which is the fill plug. The two plugs are about 1/2" or so apart, very close to each other. The top one seems to be in a raised cast round area and the other (lower of the two) flush mounted.
I seem to have seen somewhere on the forums that someone said do not remove the recessed or countersunk , or something like that .. plug

So, which plug to I pull to fill the tranny
