Tranny and driveshaft swap

Will an 86 N/A 5-speed tranny and driveshaft fit (and work) in an 85 SE?

By Drivetrain you mean Engine and tranny?

no the drive shaft will not work. The FC drive shaft is much shorter than the FB one.

Oops!! I read 85 N/A drivetrain.

The answer is NO for the tranny, unless you get a custom made driveshaft, just like the TII's.

The engine - yes, hopefully you're going carbed, right?

um... I'm broke as it is... That's why I'm ghetto rigging an 86's tranny to my 85....

As for the motor, someday it may get a TII swap, but for now, I'm just looking at a good rebuild and a streetport.

Now, as far as the tranny swapping, is it a DIRECT replacement? Or is there any kind of finaggling or customizing I'd need to do? ie shifter assembly, bolting to the motor...

I think the DC tranny shifter sits rearward more. You need to trim some metal where the shifter is.
