Trailing Vacuum Module
I got a 1979 RX-7 a while back, and I have been trying to get it running correctly. While replacing the points and condensors on the distributor, and then trying to adjust the timing I noticed that the car does not have a Trailing Igntion Vacuum Module on it.
I assume this could have contributed to my lack of power above 4,000 rpms.
Do I need a 1979 specific module, or will any first generation module work?
Thanks

I assume you're talking about the vacuum canister thing that is mounted on the distributor housing? The trailing one has two screws which can be loosened to allow adjustment of the trailing points assembly.
I've seen an '80 style electronic distributor that lacks a vacuum thing, but I can't remember if it was the leading or the trailing one.
Anyway, your lack of power above 4k RPM is probably due to carb secondaries that are not opening.

Thanks for the advice. I plan on doing the mechanical secondaries modification on the car, hopefully that will allow the car to run at high rpms.
I think I am going to try to set the timing without the vacuum advance.
