tragic death to a gsl-se
Well my friend had his 84' GSL-SE 95% restored back to original and it got wrecked last night. It was parked outside his house, and a car full of wiggers that just had a drug deal go bad were getting chased down his street. Needless to say we all allmost got killed as their car hit the back of his 7 going around 100MPH, pushed it into his aunt's car(totalled that one too), and her car rammed the back of his uncle's mini-van(toatled too)!! Well theese fake *** 17 year old gangsters that took a 45 minuet ride from white suburbia to buy drugs are now all in jail >

That's one absofrikkinlutely amazing thing about these cars - they're tiny, thin-metalled cars commonly referred to as 'jap scrap', but boy are they safe. The thick B-pillars would likely protect anyone without a glass moonroof in a rollover, and I personally smucked Pamela into a concrete barrier at highway speeds (black ice - the road turned, she didn't) and was able to drive away without a drop of fluid spilled or wheels misaligned. Her bumper was a mess and headlights jammed at weird angles, but a few replaced panels and straightened rad mount later and she was as good as new.
The car above is a total writeoff, but more important than the metal is the occupant and even though she was sandwiched between two cars after being rammed at 100mph, the cockpit is undistorted.
Not bad for a 70's design!!!

I am half in tears looking at that!
I do agree with everyone about how safe they are, as long as its not some big *** jacked all to hell truck (IE Ford F250). Then we would be totaly screwed.

I'd beat em up myself! damn that sucks! Ive lost my first two SE's in mishaps in which the cars had to be written off...but was able to drive each of them home and transfer the engine into another car.

Holy ****! Sorry about the language, but its justified after seeing that! Talk about the most horrible example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time!
Why could it not happen to a Mustang or some other model, they are common at least and are a dime a dozen. You can't replace a SE the same way. They are disappearing for all the worst reasons and are rare to start with.
I rather see a RX-7 be retired due to rust then this! At least that way most parts are usable to the next Rx-7 it could occupy. That one just has a lot of as mentioned above "written off" which insurance have better cover or I'm sure your friend will go to were ever the person who did this and re-arrange their brains with a slug hammer.
Sincere condlences,

sold the FD...kept the FB
Damm that sucks. You can tell that the owner of the SE put a lot of love into his ride.
Here's to the ~18 years of driving pleasure the car brought those who drove her
Fuel cut off? Was'nt the car parked? Non SE's only have a rollover fuel shut-off, but I'm not sure if SE's have anything more. Either way I'd say he was lucky as hell the gas did'nt start a blaze.

...another thought - that's where the fuel tank was located. Do ReXes have a fuel cut-off inertia switch, or was he just lucky?

Why would it matter if the car was parked? Another car slammed into the fuel tank region at 100 mph, twisting and tearing the metal all around the gas tank and likely denting the tank itself... that could have leaked vapours, etc that could have subsequently been ignited by the death throes of the ramming vehicle's ignition system.

That blows dude. It's a crap ton of work to restore a car. Shame to have lost it that way. It's not even his fault and he's going to lose money in the deal. Insurance is only going to pay what it's worth, not what he has into it. Fortunately nobody inoccent was injured as is often the case when something like that transpires.
Now pull that motor and build a widebody or something

yes, it hurts me, too - just to look at it. i once saw an Rx-7 get split in two after it hit one of the supports for the train-line.
anyway ... please tell me that you guys got a few good blows in on the ******* that did this - that you pulled their bloody, punk asses out and stomped them good! at least kicked one in the mouth ... please?????

Dear lord. I am deeply sorry for your friend. SE's are as rare as hens teeth up here in Canuckville and to see one that was so lovingly done up be destroyed like that... I just purchased a '79 with the intent of fixing her up and if that happened to me after I did, I'd be weeping. Here's hoping that your friend gets enough insurance to start anew.
