Track car + Me = 2357 lbs

The '84 track car got weighed again this weekend after doing some additional lightening. Everything under the dash is now out. I've replaced the center panel with an aluminum panel to have the 3 gauges and few switches on.

I'm 160 lbs so the car by itself is 2197. It had a 1/2 tank of gas as well.

FL: 687 FR: 552
RL: 572 RR: 546

Total : 2357 lbs

47.7%/52.3% cross weights
52.6%/47.4% front/rear
53.4%/46.6% left right

No coilovers or adjusters on the car. Interior is removed, Engine is stripped of anything besides go fasts. Custom 2.5" exhaust w/racing beat header is much lighter than stock. Circle Racing wheels with 225/45-13 hoosiers. Kirk Racing Roll Bar with Sparco Ultra fiberglass racing seat. Stock passenger seat was installed this time.

Next on the removal plan:
1. Lightweight battery - maybe moved to behind the passenger seat.
2. Headlights/Motors
3. I need suggestions....

She tore it up at Roebling Road this past weekend. Damn she was fun!

i just used dry ice, crushed it and spread it all over and whacked at it with a hammer (not too hard to avoid dents) it all came out really easy.

As you can see by your own scale numbers, the left front is awful heavy (like all stock first gens.)

Get all the weight you can off the left front side, and move it to the right rear (like that heavy *** battery.) Get rid of the front bumper and bumper shocks. Get an aluminum radiator.

Move your seat as far back as possible, and stick an extension on the steering column to move the steering wheel back, in order to move your 160 pound body farther back. Get a light weight racing seat.

The sound deadening is already all gone.

I'll try to remove the inards of the bumpers too. The polycarbonate rear hatch is really light compared to the stock glass. I saw one on ebay for about $150. I should have bought it last year when I saw it.

you can probably source a sheet locally and just cut it yourself, the only thing that sucks is it scratches easily, but its your track car so no big deal if you've got to spend some time polishing every once in a blue moon.

have you started cutting away at anything yet? the doors have a 30lb ish crash brace in them that can come out(if you have a cage)
get power window glass
unwire the car for things not being used.. i took 2.5 out of just the back of the car(tial/brake lights still work)

i have still never weighed my car but 2 ppl can lift up the front. and if 1 person leans on the car it will roll away

i got a trick for you head lights also

cheers PaTricK

I am totally going to do this to my 85 GS. 140K and bone stock, I have a long ways to go. I guess the only thing I could do to beat this weight would be to finish my stalled MG project. 1500lbs or less??? 13B and no more smog tests since it's a '65.

I'll take some pictures of the interior and post them. I've removed just about everything except for the dash. Got an aluminum gauge panel in it. I've started on the wiring.

Yeah, you could get rid of the cat and build a really nice NA exhaust system like I plan to do in mine. It will fly with just a mild port and a stock clutch.

I took out all the sound deadner out of an old FB and weighed it. 27 lbs... not includuing the carpet and pads. There is a really thick pad under the rear storage bins with sound deadener on it that is like 10 lbs by itself.

Pull the bumper covers off and drill out the sub bumper with a hole. Remove the dash, relocate the battery to the right rear storage bin well. Remove sound deadening, cut out the inner door panesl, lexan glass, mock up light weight bumper shocks, install lightest wheels/tires you can find. Heater core if you don't need the defroster. If you do, try a small 12 v fan to blow on the windshield. There are many small things that can be done but getting it under 2100 lbs. takes some creative thinking while still maintaining safety.

I have a fiberglass rollpan made with Big gap filler spray foam, fiberglass, and bondo. Just try not to get rear ended. Of coarse were so low most vehicles miss the bumper anyway, so it doesn't matter too much. I don't know how much it weighs, but probably less than the bumper cover. I'll see if I have a pic.

You know, I was looking at the inside of my doors last night. There is a big and heavy looking brace that runs the whole length of the door for crash protection. Since my car is an autocross only car I would love to be able to remove that bar but man....It looks like it would be super difficult to remove. It has spot welds and is very close to the outer skin.

Any ideas on removing this bar? Of course it would be a situation where you are cutting almost everything out of the door... Looks like you could save weight there.

anything and everything u feel u don't need/can do without. since it's an autox only car, the door glass/widow crank is probably worth quite abit of weight, heater box/motor, etc.

Right now I am racing in CSP....so I need to keep roll up windows. Also since I am using an "open trailer" I want the roll up windows in case it rains.

In the future I might prep for F-prepared...if so....sky's the limit!

You might want to check with '09 GCR before removing that, I know for Spec Miatas it's illegal to remove that, and those cars are fully caged.

I do quite frequently, I was out at the last practice session in my Civic.

Hopefully I'll have my RX7 out there before too much longer.

Cool...I raced the "Spokes" event Aug. 2nd at the A&M Riverside annex. I will be racing more with the A&M sports car club soon. My wife is finishing her Chemical Engineering degree up at A&M and will be starting in the Spring.

I will be living in College Station Thursday through Sunday for about 2 years.
