I'm looking for alternative ways to tow, other than full trailer to hual my 1st Gen to the track. Has anyone used a "tow dolly" similar to what U-Haul has? Would rather buy than rent one, as I plan to do 6 or more track events per year. Average towing distance is 200 miles one way.

 

i personally wouldnt want to use a dolley, cuz 7's are RWD so even if its in neutral, your still turning the diff and output shaft as you tow. you can get a light, open deck trailer for pretty cheap.

go in the Race Car Tech section and theres an entire thread with a whole lotta replies about trailors, it should be helpful.

 

I've used a tow dolly sever times w/ my 7, including a trip across 2 states without any trouble. One downside to a tow dolly is that you can't really back one up with a car on it since there's a pivot both at the hitch and on the dolly itself (and also w/ the steering on your towed car!).

 

oh sure i know ppl who do it, and they have there advantages (small and can stand up in a garage corner, etc) but they also have their disadvantages.

 

I have used them a few times. Just remember to back up on to the dolly so your rear wheels are on it.

And just be careful of deep curbs, hills or drop offs.

not unless you want that bugger to come around on ya, trust me on this one.NEVER EVER put it on the wrong WAY. I lost my suburban,dolly,rx7 in one fair swoop of the car getting outa shape.
put it on the right way and tow thats it ... dont go to fast and be careful.
ME I would get a used trailer , they are under 2000$ nnew and if you find a used one its about
1000$ to 1500$ but that just me
