Tore apart my first First Gen.

Tore apart my friends 85 GS this weekend, only took about an hour to get the motor out.

Man I can see why you guys like them! So much easier then secondgens. Just a few wires, fuel lines, throttle cables, and bolts and its out!

Sooo my quest now! A cheap project First gen! Ill start localy trying to find one .

hmm, an hour for your first fb? Not too shabby, My only complaint is the damn banjo bolt on the oil cooler. Other than that its a breeze.

Are you talking about taking the engine out? "An hour" isn't really a reasonable time for "tearing apart" anything, except maybe the pieces of the engine if you have a wreckless cause for abandonment. I can swap race engines in an hour, and that's being hot-to-trot, and having done it several times. Of course, there's less **** to take off in a racecar, and everythings easier to get to. It takes me the better part of an hour just to take all the bullshit off a street engine/car so I can start taking the mounting hardware off.

Oh and to the race guy.
I did this in 35 degree weather outside, on jackstands with someone who had never torn apart a rx7 before. I had no air tools, no lift, no previous experiance other then my second gens. We striped the engine bay from completly stock and had the motor out of the car within an hour. I think we did a good job, considering it was the first time either of us tore down a first gen.

Cpt Gloval has a 86 13b in his GSL SE. Dunno why he needs one though, mabey they are easier to connect or something??

i've got an FC engine waiting to go into the SE. the line fittings on the stock oil cooler are cracked and leak about a quart a week when the car runs.

that is pretty much the only difference. i do believe the line fittings are arranged slightly different, too. how much do you want for it, shipped? are the fittings cracked at all?

yea the fittings are slightly different but no big deal since i have to get new lines anyways. I plan on doing a beehive and air/oil cooler setup on my 85... not sure what we'd sell it for. I'll take a pic of it tommorow hopefully and get it to ya...just shoot me a pm to remind me. It is used and slightly bent, so if you plan on making a show car you might want to look somewhere else but it does the job.

sorry about the thread hijack
