I would set the FPR until it floods and then turn it down a little.

geez people - if the timing- meaning the distributer is off,and it runs the advance off of the vacume line as well as the centrifugal advance, and youre vacume line to the distributer is running to its origianal place on the intake-the same place it was before you turbocharged, then the vacum line to the distributer would have positive pressure -boost- instead of negative pressure-vacum, which would lead to the engine bogging down becaust it would be shooting the spark too late, of course if you have a mechanical or electronic advance distributer this would not be an issue -but if you have a centrifugal/vacum advance distributer, it is an issue

Pretty sure he has the distributer locked, no mechanical or vac advance.

What do you have the Dis locked at? I would guess 10deg btdc would be a good place to lock it at.
When my car was too rich it would be like I shut it off when boost hit. It would inject too much fuel and pretty much douse the plugs causing my head to hit the steering wheel

This makes a lot of sense.
When I turbocharged my SE, I had to take the shaft off the distributer and tack weld the little weights, closest to the center of the shaft. After I did this.. I retarded the timing 4 degrees for 8psi of boost and 7 for 10psi,
this stoped the gunshots [backfire] that you discribed.
The centrifugal/vacum advance was advancing the timing too much for my current setup and was causing detonation.
This was a on a 85 SE with the stock motor and stock FI system.

turbo se with stock fuel system...sounds a little dangerous to me.

Do you know how many degrees your "full advance" is.

It was!
It ran great with 8 psi, for a few months :[ but I guess.. with all the ghetto tuning [driving up and down the street(NY)] the motor took a beating and finally gave up.
2 seals were cracked when we took the motor apart with no other damage to the internals. A cartech boost dependant FPR was used, in conjunction with a haltech F5 injector controller, driving 2 additional injectors.. on a fresh street ported motor, was the ticket.
But back to seanrot issue. If the gunshot like backfire is what you are getting after reaching around 3000 to 4000 rpms, it could be what I've explained in my 1st post. If the centrifugal/vacum advance is still retained on your setup, then no matter how much you retard the timing, as soon as you hit around 3000 to 4000 rpms, it will advance the timming and.. blap! blapblap! blap!. Try using some race gas while tuning. It will help prevent detonation.

if your timing is wrong your car will run hot your turbo will glow and any time you step on the gas it will just sputter out backfires.

6 degrees is not enough advance...
you shoudl be double that or more.

i hate locked dizzys
