Tokiko: Blues or Illuminas?
Hi all,
I see there is a guy on ebay w/a shitload of Tokiko struts/shocks for sale.
I need a set for my '85 SE, but don't know which to get.
Which ones would be better suited for a street car? I don't need any huge performance gains or anything, I would rather the car handle the same, but ride better.
The Illuminas are twice as much, I assume because they are adjustable, and have a lifetime warranty. The buy it now price is $149 for the HPs, and $369 for the Illuminas.
Are those good prices? Which ones would you guys buy? I'd appreciate any info that will help me make a decision, thanks!

Definatly good prices, I personally would buy the illuminas, but thats just because Im building more of a street/track car. I hear good things about both, but I would say if you dont need the bells and whistles, just snag some of those blues.
Although, a word of warning to everyone, Tokico requires a copy of a reciept of purchase for them to warranty their struts, so you might not be able to use the warranty when buying from Ebay...

i hope those prices are for all four. part of me wishes i bought the illumina's, but i was being a tight *** on money at the same, so i went with the blues. i love them. i have eibach springs as well. ive never had any other suspension, so i cant compare. all i have to say is no complaints here

Sorry Mills. I won't re-bid. Either one of us could have grabbed the buy-it-now price. And I bet this guy has more.
I have 3 FBs, and the new free red 83 needs shocks bad, and that price is as good as junk shocks. The 85GSL could use shocks, too, but no hurry. I was thinking KYB.

does anyone see an advantage in buying the illumina's over the blue's... mainly for street and daily use? anyone have any info that would outweigh the extra dough?

They're stiffer shocks, and you can adjust them to balance out the car. It's not a question of adjusting them several times, it's doing it once. I've never bought a pair of shocks that were perfect. That's why I plan on getting a set of adjustables this time around.
Also if you do some racing, autoX or drag, you can soften them up for street use and stiffen them up for racing.

OK, thanks. I'm in no real hurry. And I'd settle for the KYBs from M'trix at about $180 anyhow. I've got plenty of work to do already. Never worked so hard in my life as these last 6 months of unemployment (or retirement, to put a better face on it: 'course that means one foot in the grave as far as I'm concerned). Since I arrived at my wifes house in France I've refinished a bathtub, repaired broken chairs, cleaned out the workshop and put up new tool hooks and paneling, sawed off the old iron pitons for shutter hinges, refinished the kitchen table, leveled the terrace, fixed a cordless phone, installed new closet lighting...and probably some things I don't remember. And that's just the first 10 days. In the next 10 I gotta build shutters for 3 upstairs windows and devise shutters for the downstairs big patio doors. Oh yeah, I hadda redo some french plumbing, too. I gotta fix and reinstall the Radio Schlock alarm system.
When I get back to CA I gotta finsish painting and rubbing out the red 83GS I got free, haul home a contributed tramsmssin for it, cleanup the interior, get it smogged, get it licensed, get it transfered, etc., before my wife arrives 2 weeks after me, so I can hide the car 'cause I didnt tell her about it yet and I'm trying to figure the right time to tell her, like maybe never.
So, ya see, I got some other things to do besides fret bout shocks. Especially since I dont relish crawling under to install, or paying the gorilla to install them for me.
'Course I got all the work items for my 2 regular 7s, and, oh yeah, I'm refurbishing an expensive condo I own in palo alto for resale, so I got the kitchen and bath torn apart. And I volunteered to fix the broken driveway for the condo association in exchange for a few months condo fees.
Anything else I oughta be workin' on? Oh yeah, I got an addition to put on the house in CA, plus the usual maintenance. And I'm thinking of erecting a prefab in Amador county.

See? If you still had a full time job, you wouldn't have time to volunteer for all these other projects! 
I know what your saying... there aren't enough hours in the day sometimes, and idle hands are the Devil's workshirt, or something like that. It feels pretty good when a project is done, and you've done it yourself, doesn't it?
The only problem w/that is there's no one to blame when something goes wrong.

Ummm.... I wanted to get them Tokicos, but I couldn't figure out between Illumina or Blue either. Then I spent my money elsewhere. =\ The Illuminas are 2x more! $$$ I do plan on auto-crossing, but I'm not sure it's worth that much more! I could just get a new set of tires almost for that money. Oh well...
