which tires?

what tires should i run? ive got the stock 13" rims, and i cant really find many tires. i looked at the sumitomos, but the reviews say that it has a very week sidwall, and i dont want that. does anyone know any 13" tires that ar a decent price a perform atleast at par? i realize the demand for smaller tires i deminishing, so any imput is welcome.
thanks.

Which review said that? The Sumitomo HTR 200 is probably the best (and only) choice when it comes to finding a street performance tire that fits 13" wheels. I've read good things about them from members here and from the tirerack.com reviews. The sidewall issue could be a problem if you're running a 205, but then again that might just be a little too wide for the stock wheels. Something like a 195 and some tire pressure adjustment using the chalk method would probably remedy any sidewall issues. I'm probably going to mount some Sumitomos after my horrible all-season tires wear out.

upgrade the rims... yo!

consider upgrading the rims. performance 13's are going out of style in a bad way where i live.
if youre crazy, buy some mustang 15x7 (or BMW 15x7, which i think mine are) and some 8mm spacers for the front and run a 195/50 tire on it. the car feels like a missile.

(this is crazy because the mustang bolt patten and some bimmers are 4x108, and we are of course 4x110, and the hub bores dont match. but the rims were cheap from ebay and the tires are VERY common in the trash around here)

maybe ill post some pics if you want.

I'm planning on running hard compound Yokohama A032R's in 175/60-13. They also come in a 215/50-13 but I don't know if they'll fit.

I am running Sumitomo HTR 200s 205/60 r13s on stock rims. The sidewall is soft, but as long as you keep the pressure up you should have no problems. They are rated up to 52psi iirc, and I keep mine in the mid to high 40s to reduce tire roll. Other than that, they are great tires. They have excellent grip and seem to hold fine even in the rain. I would definately reccomend these tires. I have heard of some people running 215/60 r13s, but some sites I looked at said that 205 was as big as I should go on the stock rims so that is what I did. I have had no problems.

I've seen 215-50's mounted on stock rims, i think they rub a little when turning though.

I just bought a set of 205-60 sumitomos for 200 to the door from tirerack.

I got some Toyo Proxes RA-1's in 205/60R13 from www.aimtire.com for $500 shipped. Super sticky tire, and that what they run in the Spec7 series, as well as Spec Miata. I love em, and they have a good tread pattern. Cornering ability is through the roof. Also, their DOT approved, even with the "Reccommended for Competition Events Only" stamped on the side. In the rain, well, it's the best tire I've ever driven in the rain.

I may add that upgrading to a larger 15" rim may require stiffer new springs than stock due to the wheel-leverage difference.

I just put a set of 185/60/13 Falken ZE-512 tires on my Fiesta and I'm real impressed with them. I got them at America's Tire Co. They aren't listed in that size on their website, but they can order them. I paid $184 for a set of 4 because they matched the price (with shipping) from Vulcan Tire's website. I was thinking about the Sumitomo HTR 200 tires, but I read too many reviews complaining about the soft sidewalls. In any case, the largest tire you want to run on a 5.5" wide wheel is a 205, and even then it's not really the ideal setup.

RX7Carl is running 215 Sumitomos on stock 13" rims with no issues. Says he loves them last I heard. FYI.

well, if this is for the street, try to find some bigger wheels, your tire choice will increase a lot. If it's for competition, kumho v710s is what i've been looking at ones i get some race wheels from diamond racing wheels...

if you want, swap to the GSL-SE rims and get the yokohama AVS ES-100. the side wall is pretty stiff and they got great grip and is a good all around tire, plus they have the added benefit of having large areas for water to escape. i use them on my GSL-SE and i get great results, plus some of the noob's that just got their license think that youre running slicks... i got a few of those remarks in the past 2 months i had them on but everyone i know, knows that these tires are good. a friend of mine who autocrosses every once in a while has a set on his FD and he gets instant response because the side wall is soo stiff
