Tires!!?
I was wondering what width of tires would be the best. Someone told me to put 12s on the back and 10s on the front and ill be able to take any corner at very high speeds. I was wondering how wide you would go without it looking stupid or having to get a wide body kit! thanks!!!

Not slicks! Just really wide tires? Wont those 12 in and 10 in give you superior handing along with koni or tokiko illumina shocks and new springs and sway bars?

well, i'm still not sure what you mean ... what rims are you running? and is this a street car or a race car?
10 inches wide is virtually 255 mm and i've never heard of a Gen I swallowing those up front before, and 12 inches is about 305 ...
the widest tires i've ever seen on a Gen I is 245 (on the rear) and even those were a really tight fit and required modifications. so either i missed something, or i'm not understanding your question.
sorry

Why is wider not necesarily better? Wouldnt it hug the corners better? Or do you think in would be way to easy so slide out on say sand or something because there is such little surface area with little weight? This is a street and never intend it to be a race car i just want the widest or i sould say the tires that handle the very best!!

it depends on power vs rolling resistance, fitment, etc. stock rims i wouldn't really push over 205. as for staggered tire sizes, that depends on your cars character. most do this in high hp cars so that you can actually go and not spin spin spin. this of course puts more tread out back so you will understeer unless the suspension is tuned to dial this out. do yourself a favor and learn about suspension tuning first. then decide.

wider=
hydroplaning on damp pavement
more skidding on loose surfaces (gravel, dirt, etc)
unless you go as far in as you do out altering tire width, you alter the "Dave Point" when steering (the patch on which the tire actually rotates) which can screw up your whole steering geometry. It will also screw up your rear geometry.
Let's say you DO centre the width of your fatties - now the tire rubs against the suspension over bumps...
so a bit wider gives you a bit better grip. A lot wider screws up suspension geometry and rubs fenders, coils, etc.
ergo, wider is not neccessarily better.

and you better have power steering if you ever want to be able to turn the steering wheel
Like Manntis said ... wide tyres don't automatically mean better handling .. they might mean more grip under some circumstances but I bet your car would not be fun to drive on the road with that width of rubber

I dunno i put 215/60's on my 14 inch rims it barely caught the fender so i modified it just a bit by trimming that little flap on the in side of the wheel well... it werks great and handles extremely well..... it looks ******* mean too

Get tires that grip and are made for the surface/conditions that you will drive in.
