tire fitment

Hello guys. Just got to a point where I figured I'd post some pics and ask a few questions about my 79 SA. I bought this car about 2 months ago. 54k miles, super good condition. I then bought gslse axles/struts, braided brake lines, se brake lines/master/prop valve, tokico springs (will be for sale shortly) t3 RCAs, 15x9 +10 wheels, there's still lot i haven't bought yet though.

i need tires and fender flares, and a lot more suspension parts. does anyone know how wide the 280z zg flares are? also, i'm looking to buy rear springs in a 150/lb rate that will replace the tokico springs. I like the ride height where it is though. Any options for me?

I agree - putting flares would really take away from such a nice car.

If you must mod the car to personalize it, then at least use period correct modifications. It isn't a 1979 Lambo.

I always believe that you should modify the car how you see fit. Just to address the original question, I did find this site for ZG "style" fenders and they are 2 inches wider in the front and 3 inches in the rear... ZG Fender Flares

I really like those rims, what size tires are you going to run? It seems like there is not much selection in performance 15inch rubber.

Good luck with your project.

Thank you. It was after many endless nights tossing around modding or not modding. I bought this car because it's in SUPER great shape, and that's what I wanted. There is no rust at all, barely any dings, a few rock chips and a bent lip. It was more financially smart in my opinion to buy a car that's already in great shape rather than buy a not as nice shape of car that needs body work. I know flares require body work, but not rust fixing and a total respray kind of body work. I LOVE the rx7, i've had 5 fb's and this is my first SA. I've pissed countless numbers of people off with me modding it... but it's what I wanted/want to do and it's my car. I want basically a street legal track car that can be autoxed and taken to track days. I've ordered T3 camber plates, front coilover kit, and flares. I hope to not have to run spacers in the front, it will be close. No idea how much more room the coilovers will take up compared to the stock springs. The tires up front, not sure yet but as wide as will fit. The rears i'd like to fit 245/45. Most likely will buy kuhmo tires. Hoping to fit a 225.45 up front, but we'll see.

I'm not understanding as to how this isn't period correct? a lot of the vintage photos of track rx7's have some type of flare/widebody and most track/non track cars have mesh wheels. besides, who would want an ugly 79 lambo lol the 7 is so much cooler!

You're right, track cars of that vintage did run extra wide tires. It is your car to do with as you wish. And it is just a car.

I shouldn't impose my esthetic on you 8).

The coilovers should be smaller in diameter than the stock springs and give you extra clearance
on the back of the wheels up front. Usually this is why folks want to use coil overs other than
the adjustability aspect. I think 10" is about as wide in the rear as you can go unless
you can get smaller diameter springs to work.

does anyone know where i can buy rear springs in any spring rate? i didn't measure the diameter/length before i put them in because i wanted to do rear coilovers. Changed my mind. I bought kyg agx adjustable rear shocks for a camaro and want to find 150lb springs that will leave it at the ride height it is now in the rear. The rears fit perfect, the front we'll just have to see. Flares should be here any day now, i'm hoping to get the front end parts by the end of the week but T3 and summit racing (bushings/sway links) but i'm sure atleast T3 is backed up since they were off from christmas to new years. Still replied to emails though, so far T3 had been nothing but great!

I bought these flares. ZG Fender Flares Though, they were off for the holiday too and I haven't gotten them yet. I should have them and my coilovers/camber kit by Monday, then i'll know if these wheels are even going to work.

Still no flares... should be here Wednesday. I currently have: T3 camber plates, T3 weld on coilover kit with 300lb springs and their coil over top hat with the torington bearings, RCAs, and all my sway bar links to actually install the sway bars. I have an RB front bar and a gslse rear bar. My rear springs will be 150lb ones.

Does anyone see an issue with not upgrading the rear bar and having the 1.125" RB front bar?
