Tire choice on the 79 Limited Wheels?
Tire choice on the 79 Limited Wheels?
Well, I'm lucky enough to have a '79 Limited so I'd be retarded to use another wheel. However, my size is pretty limited (I believe the size I was quoted was 185/70-13 correct me if I'm wrong). It's got olldd Comp T/As on it now but they don't make them in 13 anymore (
)... The only even decent tire I can find in that size is a Yokohama Avid T4 from TireRack for $41/tire. Any opinions?
thx!

I might go for the Sumitomo HTR-200 205/60HR-13 others have recommended on the forum.

They are only about 0.4" smaller in dia. than the Yoko's, and probably grippier, at the expense of quicker wear.
I gotta get me some factory alloys though, I have the stock steel wheels at 5" wide; too narrow for this tire.

Tire Rack, and the tire manufacturers usually have the data for each specific tire model, including recommended rim widths, etc.
As a general rule of thumb, the tire's O.D. is approximately: aspect ratio x tread width x 2, plus wheel diameter.
Example: .60 (60% aspect ratio) x 205 (tread width in mm.) x 2 divided by 25.4 (to give you inches) + 13 = 22.7

yokohama has an A008 they make in a 195 width.. these are made specifically for SRF front tires.
I have a set of them on a set of 75 forged aluminum Mazda mesh wheels. great street tires.. okay in the rain until they get low on tread depth..
if you can fit the HTR's go for it... you'll be happiest with those.
