Tinted Windows - To tint or not

Ok guys I am looking for some input. I am thinking about tinting my windows on my '84 GSL. Pint colour is R7 (Orange).

I guess my questions are: What is everyones feelings on tinted windows on an FB? and Will this look good? Any pics or input that is out there is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Whether it looks good or not is up to the induvidual. The problem is, tinted windows (as well as other ricer mods) scream, "HEY COPS, YOU ******* PIGS! Come on over and bust me! First, follow me until I commit some obscure minor traffic violation. Then pull me over, write me up, and go over my car with a magnifying glass looking for other things to bust me for. You should have no problem sticking me with a hefty array af fines. How does $1000 sound?"
This may sound far-fetched, but it's true. The same cop who would let you go with a warning for failing to come to a COMPLETE stop at a stop sign in your bone stock 4-door Cavalier will throw the book at you in your RX7 if he thinks for one second that you might be a bit of a speed demon when he's not around. One of their biggest pet peeves is tinted windows, ostensibly because they can't see into your car when pulling you over, but more because they think it looks stupid.
The RX7 (especially 1st and 3rd gens) look fast even when parked, which already makes us a target for ticket abuse from cops. Why make it worse by ricing out our cars? Better to do "invisible" performance mods to the engine and exhaust. A nice, bone stock-looking "sleeper" has a nice ring to it.

IMO, Looks great on an FB - I just did it. It's also functional - Helps reduce interior fading and sun damage - also keeps the interior cooler - have it done by a pro - the hack jobs can look like sh@t,

The only reason I see for tinting windows is if you don't want people to see what you have in the back of your car like speaker boxes and such. Other than that I'm not a big fan of tinting the windows(limo black) because its hard to see out the back window at night

I didn't see this post when I replied earlier -
I should have mentioned - keep it legal. Here in Manitoba, it's 30% back and 50% sides. If you find someone willing to do it darker (those 5% Limo jobs), you may get into trouble - I was not referring to tinting beyond the legal limit. As for "rice" - legal tint is not rice - my grampa's Old's is tinted and it certainly ain't rice - there's extremes for everything and the "over the top" tint jobs are exactly that.

Hey

I tinted my side windows, back quarter windows and windshield.............I did not do the hatch........I have louvers on it........

I want to be able to see anybody trying to sneak up on me.........

I did the sides first but did not realize a difference until I replaced my windshield and let the tint shop tint it before putting it back in.......I have red leather interior and that **** heats up so much in the summer that even with a perfect AC system it wont cool down......

I also have been re-dying my interior panels and this way I know they will be protected.

When their is any question of an authority figure in the area I just role the windows down and the whole car is
just about stock....cause I did not do the hatch.......

Tint the windows dark as you legally can...it'll look a lot better. Take a look at Toughguy's rex that is a beautiful hugger orange and you'll see what I'm talking about...

I like my tinted hatch and quarter windows - high quality never-fade-to-purple dark tint, and I can still see out @ night.

Did someone guarantee that your tint would never purple? I was told by a number of service providers including the tintdude forum that there is no such thing as "never purple" tint - regardless of quality, the sun will eventually win the battle. However, the highest quality tints will last longer. I most certainly could be wrong and so could they - I'm only interested in knowing if there is a new product on the market that will actually never purple

Hey everyone thanks for the input.

As for Rice - I don't want to tint them PINK.

I just want to stay legal. I had an F150 with tinted windows and found they helped greatly with headlght glare while driving at night.

BTW guys don't poke the nasty old TROLE!!!

Looks good, thanks man.

Ice looking car. I find the Orange to be an under rated colour

Thanks again

I have to have tint, it relaxes your eyes when used with sunglasses. Bright light for long periods puts a serious strain on your eyes. All that side light really does cause glare without tint. Police seem to not like it, BUT I found if you roll both of your windows fully down in the event you do get pulled over, they rarely ask you to put them back up. The don't think to check the darkeness level if they can see you.

And besides theres a lot of UV light out there, it will keep you from getting a sun burn when you drive a long way in the sun.

Good points. I should have worded it "combined with rice mods." Legal tints not only look good, but cut down on glare from headlights as well as keeping the uphoulstry in the rear hatch from aging as fast as it otherwise would. Hides valuables from prying eyes too, particularly at night, when theives are on the prowl.
But very dark (illegal) tints only give the cops one more thing to bust you for. Combine this with an oversize whale tail, flared fenders, air dam, window stickers, and flourescent lighting under the car and you have a recipe for police harassment no matter how polite you are to the nice officer...

I wanted to tint mine, but I want to be able to see out the back windows well at night, and I kinda like the bright sun through the windows making it nice and bright inside the car on a nice sunny Seattle day (the few we do get). I would just roll the windows down, but I said sunny, not warm, this is Seattle after all, lol. Im still trying to decide about it. I want the back 3 tinted at least to help hide the stereo that will eventually be back there even more, but I dont know what I want to do with the two door windows. Im thinking a lighter tint than the back windows like Rex79. I just dont know though.

Mazda used a bronze tint in the '80s on their other performance cars and 2nd gen Rx-7s, I'm thinking about going w/a fairly light (legal) bronze if I can find it...

I'm gonna tint mine, and I still haven't decided on a dark black, or the "mirror" tint.

I have the mirror tint here in Minnesota on my 2000 Accord sedan, on all windows but the Windshield.

Never have had a ticket, or a warning for the tint, although I did have to sign a waiver, which says it is highly illegal when it was installed. It's 15% all around.

We're moving to Arizona, where even the police cars, have dark black tint (near Sedona anyways).

I tinted the back hatch myself last summer. It's really dark, but looks like **** because I did it myself. When I do it over again(soon) I'm goign to go lighter than the 5% limo stuff, it's just too dark. And pay someone to do it right, mine looks like I did it and poorly at that.
