ok..

this has never happened to me before..

but as i started the car.. like u know u turn the key twice..

first turn, turns on the radio.. then 2nd actually starts the car..


when i turned the key 1st.. (not starting the car)

all the red lights on the dashboard lit up..

u know the HAND BRAKE light.. the OIL LIGHT etc..

its like in a horizontal line.. all the red caution lights..

its all LIT UP!..

this never happened to me before..

then i started .. it started normally and all the red lights went away except for the HAND BRAKE LIGHT because i had the hand brake on.. but it goes away after i put it down.. and everything is normal

so wats the problem ?

im so scared.. i was so scared when i saw it... surprised then scared.... no first i was scared then i panic

wats happening to my baby!!!

Add Brake Fluid.

 

Did you accidentally turn the key too far? All the lights come on when you get to the 2nd notch without the engine cranking. The third notch is the starter.

 

what conway said. 3 positions. acc, ign, starter. explain what you get in each position.

 

I don't think there is any relation between the lights and the smell of oil in your car. As Conway said, those lights will appear when you start your car, so don't worry about them. As for the oil, open up your hood and check for any leaks.

 

OFF/Lock - Just what it says... You can remove the key in this position. Car does nothing.

Active circuits:
-Hazzards
-Brake Lights
-HeadLights
-Cig Lighter
-Interior lighting

Accessory (ACC) - Activates radio circuit only.

Run/On - Activates the following circuits:
-ECU
-Fuel Pump
-Ignition
-Gauge Cluster
-Wipers
-HVAC Controls
-Rear defrost

Start - Activates the following circuits:
-Starter (Duh)
-Hot Start assist
-Cold Start assist

When the gauge cluster circuit is active, but the engine isn't running (No Alternator output) ALL idiot lights come on as a lamp test feature. Any that don't come on, means replace the bulbs... It's a normal function. I would be wondering why they didn't come on before now.

 

but how come this only recently happened to me

 

ok me dad started her this morning and all the red caution lights didnt light up..

so i must of done something wrong..


all i remember is.. (when it first happened) is i put her on nutral... pumped twice.. the second pump is when all the red caution lights lit...

started her normally.. and then it all went away..


this was last night..


this mornin my dad started it.. he said he didnt see any red caution lights..


also i have some break fluid in the garage.. where do i put it? and how much of it..

Must be a short circut somwhere in the wiring, good luck finding it. Make sure you keep a close eye on all your fluids and temps because you now know that the 'idiot' lights aren't 100%. Sounds like they're shooting for 1%, lol. Hmmm, maybe one of the large connecting pins is loose on the back of the guage cluster.

 

Nevermind, I misunderstood the question. I thought your "Brake" warning light wasn't turning off with the other warning lights.

 

i just got back from college for a 2 hour break.. i just witnessed a horrific crash between a lady and a bus..

then i thought about my rx7.. DAMN im scared to drive back to college now..


anyways back to the point..

anyone know wat happened and why the red caution lights were lit after i turnd the key ..

it usually doesnt happen..

this morning it didnt happen.. and when i left college it didnt happen..

only last night..


also where do i put the brake fluid.. or how do i know its time to fil it....

anyone got a pic or diagram where to put it?

secondly...... if everything is normal when the engine is running, i wouldnt worry about it. i believe all the lights do in fact come on in the ON position.

 

If you're turning that key fast and looking somewhere else, you'll never notice all the lights briefly flash before all current is diverted to the starter. Try turning the key very slowly without the intention of actually starting it. Those bank of lights should come up every time...no worries, timmah.......

 

WAIT, all the lights are suppose to come on and go out after the car starts. Smells like oil, thats not normal

 

Yeah, heres my lame attempt to clear some confusion...

When you turn the key on, NOT starting the car, all the dash lights are SUPPOSED to come on. If they DONT come on like your saying, you have a problem. Check the plug on the back on the alternator (its a two wire plug). Clean the contacts there. Also, in the corner of the engine bay on the drivers side by the firewall and the inner fender, there is a little box. Its the choke relay. Check the plugs on that. Those are the two places I found problems when my lights werent coming on.

The smell of oil is unrelated to the lights. Hope that helps...
