timing issues
timing issues
Completed a rebuild and having trouble with hot starts. It runs smooth after it starts, but I think it is lacking power. I thought I had the pully installed correctly, but is it possible I could be off 180 degrees and it would still idle smooth, but be hard to start and lack some power? Any suggestions would be helpful,
thanks,
Todd

If your pully is off 180 degrees, the timing marks will line up with the pin on the front cover if you connect your light to the rear plugs. The only difference is you are setting the timing off your rear rotor instead of the front. I don't see how this would effect performance.
If your are questioning wether the pully was placed back on in the correct position, do a search. There were several good posts on how to do this, I just can't tell you in detail off the top of my head. I would think that if the timing was too far off, you would not be able to start the car at all.

I've had mine off 180 before and it ran, just not very well at all. Never removed the pulley, just had accidentally put the dizzy in the wrong way (don't ask). Once I set it back to TDC on the front rotor using the description on here, it has run like a top every since. One of these days I'll mess with advancing the timing but too many other things to take care of right now like replacing a balljoint and the rear brakes!
