Time to rebuild, advice?
Time to rebuild, advice?
So I have a stock motor from 74' so it's a 4 port 13b.
I have a Holley 650 and a Holley blue fuel pump. I plan on rebuilding the engine soon and since it's not a daily driver I want to go full bridge on it.
Now here comes a question. stay with the 4 port or go through the pain in the *** of putting a 6 port in it?
p.s. no boost in the future for this car. Just bottle.
Thanks guys.

Six ports are good because they offer "some" torque, and better drivability.
They are fine in stock and street port versions.
A Four port will yield more top end horsepower, and will be more responsive to
boost/nitrous/porting. My concern is that your '74 engine may be toast when you open it up and see
if anything is truly usable.

well, as far as the condition of the 4 port, I drive it around and I've never had any mechanical problems related to the engine itself. So, it SHOULD be in decent shape.
Saying that we live in a perfect world and the motor is good, with you saying the 4 port will be more responsive to a bottle, and it yielding more top end power. And seeing how it would be so much easier on my pocket to keep the 4 port, is this what you recommend?

i have been wondering the same question as to which one you can get more power from without any power adders the 4 or 6 port engine. also if you put a intake and holley on a 6 port would that help or hurt the power over the efi since im assuming the 5th and 6th port would be open all the time at that point?
