The time has come.
Some of you may remember me, I was on here back around the summer time while I was working on my GSL. After it got started, I couldn't put anymore money into it due to my daily biting the dust and having to buy another car.
So my first question is, if it sat for 11 years, and had 11 year old oil still in it when it started, what's the chances of damage, and am I looking at a rebuild. Personally, I'd like to get a rebuild anyway for my own ease of mind.
Now, my second question is...is there any relatively close known shops that rebuild these motors? If I need to ship, how the hell do I and what's the average freight on shipping a motor.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Try ISC Racing, Winter Haven FL. Shipping from FL to LA was about $60 (truck). The distance from FL to LA id probably pretty close to the distance from FL to you. Talk to Mike, he'll build it anyway you want, and they do great work.

Are you sure it needs a rebuild? I mean just becuase you started it up doesnt mean that it was going to cause that major of damage. Run a compression test at least before you go spending all that money, unless that is what you want.

change the oil before you think about turning that key! make sure there isn't any moisture in there too! drain the fuel and replace with fresh stuff. You will probably want to inject a little MMO (marvel mystery oil) into the plug holes and rotate the e-shaft to make sure things are lubed up before you start it....it will also allow your OMP to catch up. after that, give her hell!

I guess I should say, to save myself from looking like an idiot, that when it started, I didn't expect it to after 3 days of nothing working and 11 years of sitting. So, even though I knew better than to start it, I had too many doubts in my mind to think it would even go. The rebuild is something I've been wanting to get done for the last 6 or 7 months. Not only that, it'll be easier to paint the bay with it out.
I'm just not sure if the housings could have been screwed by it starting up like that. How much does the average rebuild cost? I'm guessing about $1,000. Correct me if I'm wrong, or let me know if there are any cheaper.
Thanks again.

if it were me ...
i'd change the oil, filter, thermostat and antifreeze. substitute a quart of MMO for a quart of oil when you refill it. put some MMO down the throttle bores and turn the engine by hand for a few minutes. let it sit overnight and then start it. i don't know if it's drivable, but if so take it around the block a few time (BE EASY) ... as long as it's compression and power are good, i'd save the rebuild money or put it into something else more pressing.

More pressing item might be to drive the thing and make plans from there.
Yes it will be easy to paint the engine bay with it out, but removing the engine and then replacing it after the painting will keep your wheels moving and cash flow better. Then if all goes well you can remove it again and rebuild it, if needed, plus perform any upgrades your wallet might allow.
