TII Swap... Shifter Question

Hey, Im not really doing a TII swap... Im doing a custom project and my shifter location is too far back. I was told that when a TII swap into a 1st gen is done, you swap the tail shaft from the TII tranny with one from a 1st gen tranny and this moves the shifter location to the correct spot. What I was wonder is how much does it change? 1" 2" 3" more?
And is it done by swaping the tail shaft and the shifter rods and such?
Thanks folks

You dont actually have to swap the tailshaft or the selector shaft on the TII swap. The TII selector shaft has to be cut an inch and the rollpin hole redrilled. Then you have to cut the selector shaft tube down an inch too. Then bolt the 1st gen shift box onto the TII tranny to place everything 1" foreward of its previous position.
If you need a lot more foreward movement, then a stock 79-80 tranny would put you 4-7(?) inches foreward of a stock TII trans shifter. But the N/A first gen trannies arent nearly as strong as the TII box.
