Throttle Cable

Or should I say cables? I have a 1984 gsl-se I am attaching pictures of what I am trying to figure out and could use some input. I have a cablre that attaches on the passenger side to the left of the throttle body..the throttle cable that comes thru the firewall is attached to a stopper and then the other cable comes from some round thing bolted to the firewall..anyway the lock spring is gone and the cable looks 2 fet too long anyway...any ideas...the cable is old andkeeps getting wires stuck outside the end and it causes my idle to jump to redline unless I shut it off and pull the wires...can i get rid of that whole thing somehow?

thanks

100% sure that is the Cruise Control.

You can remove the CC vacuum chamber (the big part at the end of the cable) without any issues other than losing CC function, obviously.

The throttle cable comes from the driver's side of the firewall and attaches to the Main Throttle Body rods in the same general loaction - you'll notice it as it goes over a curved section of a wheel which rotates the Main Throttle Rod. Good luck,
